I guess you're probably one of those that thinks the constitution does not apply to state that it only applies to federal government.
**Side note... in 1789/1791 the first ten amendments of the United States/ Bill of Rights were made applicable to the states through the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment***

You might want to re-read the first sentence of the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
It was put there to ensure the US didn't have a state-mandated religion like England or Spain.
