Sorry, but you are not.
The Sheriff would not even have 3 deputies in NP. He staffs his positions based upon polling precinct maps, specifically high voter turnout out precincts.
Don't believe that? Drive around unincorporated Sarasota County and see for your damn self!
If your theory was correct, Laurel, Warm Mineral Springs and those parts of unincorporated Sarasota that border SPD would not be in the positions they are in, NOW WOULD THEY?
Enough of your complete foolishness and your fairytales about Tom Knight and what he would do, because he won't! And neither will anyone who comes after him!
We are on our own and we need grassroots people like Stephanie and other realists to continue us on our path toward improvement.
Enough of this SCSO nonsense. I bet if you asked the good people in Laurel, WMS or Sarasota if they had to choose between the level of service North Port gets, and the level of service they get, it is quite obvious we would be welcomed!
I would love to get in a battle of wits with you but it would be like shooting an unarmed man, oops sorry if I offended anyone. The service to the certain areas you have stated is adequate , lets see now yesterday saw two SCCO traffic units on 41, motorcycle patrol and community service officer, aco and a couple patrol cars, NPPD saw all the vacant vehicles behind the police station waiting for applicants. So where is all this great protection you tout , calls for service, please like you ever answer any calls whatsoever.....???? We are at bare minimum, been that way for numerous years now, the best of the best, please, we barely get by. You ask why am I not loyal to the NPPD, simply it sucks here, no money( unless ur admin), no manpower and no opportunity for advancement. Not a suck a$$ or a rat then your stuck humping calls for your career. This is just not Vespa's doing, its been going on for years and is so entrenched I doubt it will cease when one new chief is hired. I could care less about laurel, WMS has been patrolled and would probably see better coverage if the SCCO took over NPPD. Vespia has just ruined this department, but he is not alone here, we helped by not fighting back, we couldn't even muster up a vote of no confidence years ago, so please spare me. Bottom line is this, we have been reduced to a security guard force. The city would save millions by turning over the FD and NPPD to the county. Some of us would go green, the rest well Walmart is hiring. The problem is unless the commissioners gut this place and start anew, the crap we call admin will always rise to the top and pollute any good intentions. So what you refer to as nonsense, is sound fiscal management and would most certainly bring to NP a law enforcement agency which could better serve its needs at a much lower cost. After all we are now paying taxes for the SCSO, and they are more visible now than the NPPD..One would ask why am I preaching this move, simply this, this department is circling the drain per se, vespia says he's leaving, we will see, pelfrey is still here, and morales is sucking up for the top seat, nothing is ever going to change here, we would like it to, but despite the commissioners best intentions the crap will always rise to the top. Sounds pretty brite to me, but, if you still have problems understanding, please have an adult explain it to you.
Scratch another off our short list
So here is one we dont want.. though he was quite proactive at punishing himself.
Sherriff allegedly exposes himself, gets arrested, then suspends himself for a week for conduct unbecoming.. but he is innocent of the charges he was arrested for.. uhmmm but. well, ok Sherriff. Be sure to cc the SAO so he can drop all charges...
Somethings you just cant make up.

PS.. no interest in the argument above but as a point of fact, Newtown is in the City of Sarasota and covered by SPD. Also,l im 40 some plus many more and Newtown has always been a problematic area for as long as I can remember.
