They're working a large pileup with at least 10 fatalities, numerous other injuries and you're complaining that a couple of troopers aren't wearing their hats?? You need to get your priorities in order son. If you even have any time under a hat, you would know that when you're working in an environment like that and are processing the scene, you are constantly bending down and/or kneeling to examine marks, examine vehicles, take photos, retrieve evidence and property, marking the scene etc. Wearing the hat is just not practical in that situation. If all you're doing is standing around trying to look good for the media, then yes, maybe you can wear the hat. Also, it could have been a windy day. I've had the hat blow completely off my head during gusty days or when a semi drives by and then I get to chase my hat down the shoulder while on a traffic stop. I'll wear the hat when I want and I'll not wear the hat when I feel its not practical.

Priorities? the emergency is past , the policy says wear your hat , so wear it you lazy cry baby, end the stupid crying already over the hat, not wearing it won't make you do your job any better, but how our image is seen on national tv helps us all, to the writer I quoted here's a hanky you sniffling cry baby, it's part of the uniform, wear it, get used to it and do your job, good god you no hat issue cry babies sound so stupid and pathetic.

You are probably one of those troopers that wears the hat all the time. You have typical short man syndrome and the hat makes you look taller. You ride around in your car with your hat on. You go to the bathroom with your hat on. You probably wear your hat at home when you are whacking off because you need it to feel better about yourself. I don't have that problem. I don't have anything to prove. I wear the hat when I want to and don't wear the hat when I don't want to. Simple as that. So, keep on wearing your hat all day everyday. It probably goes well with that stick up your rear.

Could be he's just a trooper that follows the policy manual and wears his hat unless there are exigent circumstances. Could be that he's a trooper that believes wearing the campaign hat is part of the image of a state trooper that SHOULD be projected everyday he's at work. Now let's look at your comments, shall we?
I don't have anything to prove.

I wear the hat when I want to and don't wear the hat when I don't want to.
You sound like just the kind of selfish, individual, non-conformist that disregards the rules because he thinks they apply to everyone else except him. You knew what being a trooper was about and was what expected of you before you joined and while you were in the academy, so why didn't you quit and leave then? I will pray for your sergeant, because you must be a nightmare to supervise...

Actually, my supervisor and I get along great. You know why? Because he doesn't have a stick up his rear. I also get along great with my supervisor's supervisor. You know why? Again, because he doesn't have a stick up his rear and he uses common sense. Thank you for praying for my supervisor but I think the nightmare is probably you. I feel sorry for the people that have to work with you daily.

With cameras in every patrol car, enforcing the policy to wear your hat is extremely easy just by viewing the videos. FHP needs to decide that they either want the hats worn or they don't care. Either enforce the policy or do away with it.

The highly professional lawman places his hat upon his head as he exits his vehicle. He then struts like a rooster all about the scene. His chest is thrust forward as he wears his campaign hat proudly. After strutting about and intimidating all of the little weaklings, he removes his hat as he slighly ducks back into his vehicle. He drives into the sunset while those he leaves behind gaze in awe all slackjawed and goofy.

You are correct my friend. My agency has many issues too, but my god, 4 pages about the policy of a hat.. REALLY !!!!!!

It's as much or more about getting troopers to do what they are supposed to do instead of trying to find ways not to it, as it is about wearing the hat.

Maybe that's why, my friend, your agency needs a hat policy.

Wow, coming from a trooper who calls himself Bubba and used the word intelligent. Good luck with your hat policy. Maybe I should dial *347 when I see a hat violation in progress.

Bubba, I like what you have to say. Keep it coming and don't worry about the haters. I wish you had been one of my supervisors because you sound like you can apply common sense to real life situations.[/quote]

Thanks for the kind words. I put no stock in trolls...
FHP has plenty of good sergeants out there...they try to filter through the BS so that the troopers can function as best that they can...even though common sense is truly quite uncommon nowadays...;-)
