Mr. Wolf wrote:I am quoting the former great N.Y. Giant Coach Bill Parcells.."If you want me to cook dinner, I must buy the groceries."This proposed new style of THI will end when a case that appears simple (dead guy at fault), will be a total and utter failure. Every new Director of this department since its inception wants to leave a "footprint" behind that they think will remain long after they ride off into the sunset. But we will be left to pick up the broken pieces long after they are gone, never to be heard from again. So they are training prospects to investigate fatalities right out of the gate. When we all know it takes time, education, training, OJT, self determination, and a circle of good Troopers in the field to learn this craft. After all that being said, sometimes it is still not enough. What message is our department sending out to the current THI investigator's? When we all know that most of the time the toughest deposition's are those civil cases involving some crash that occurred three or four years ago. The department's current goal is to keep most of the Trooper's on the road handling the daily grind we have all been used to and lighten up the top. But this proposed system will only bog down the road Trooper who will now have to in addition to his/her road duties conduct sworn to interviews of drivers and witnesses, still document on scene personel, still make NOK, make 10-25 with the local M.E. Office, conduct post crash inspections of the vehicles, complete a field note packet, collect evidence..etc...etc..etc.The Department has said that our way of conducting traffic homicides is out dated and we are one of the few Departments in the nation that still follows this current model. I say "Whats Wrong With That!!" It has been one of the great programs this Department has had which has set us apart from the others. I have only gotten on this soap box becaus I truly like the THI program and I am very dissapointed to see the direction it is going. Enough of the Kool Aid, and be safe!

Jones says that will save time by allowing a trooper who responds to an accident to begin an investigation immediately, rather than wait for an investigator.Jones says the current class at the academy is being trained to investigate simple fatalities. Starting in February, current troopers will start attending a special school to get the extra training on investigating accidents.http://www.cfnews13.com/article/news/2011/october/331973/Florida-official-wants-investigators-back-on-roadI am sure it will be all good because Burchnell and Riggo are in charge of the training and the making of policy..............ALL RIGHTY

Only a handful of troopers passed the basic THI course and FHP ended up giving out certificates of attendance instead of certificates showing they passed the class. Seems to me if I remember right David Brierton was involved in that mess as well. I guess Brierton is a slow learner. The first case a trooper screws up because he rolled up on that single vehicle crash that was really a two vehicle crash and criminal charges can't be brought because the scene was not properly investigated FHP will once again have to hang their heads in shame. Just because there is only one vehicle at the scene does not mean there was not interaction with a second vehicle. I have come to the conclusion the David Brierton is insane, why else would he keep repeating the same failed concepts over and over expecting different results each time? He's lost in space

They way THI's speak of themselves would have you thinking that they are physicists or mechanical engineers, which is hardly the truth. Nothing they do is more than simple algebraic equations involving functions like taking the square root or using an exponent (woooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww, impressive!) A skill that most high schoolers should have mastered by their junior year. The main concern is the time required to properly investigate a fatality, which road troopers simply do not have. Any monkey can be a THI if you give him enough time to collect his data and gather evidence at the scene. Thanks for your opinion JackAss. The name calling helps prove your point so I am following your lead.Nope, just have coworkers who have showed me the math they use. Nothing more than basic algebra, high school level physics/vector algebra, and occasionally a little trig. If you feel that I'm off base by these statements then by all means call me out and elaborate! Not being a jackass, just stating observations. Most THI guys I have met exhibit the behavior seen in this thread.....trying to make us believe they are some type of hand selected, engineering/physics/math gods that are SOOO much smarter than your average trooper (not true). Just saying that nothing they do is very complicated.....once you gather evidence the actual number crunching is plug and play. This is coming from someone who has taken a college level statics and dynamics class. THI calculations are NOT hard! Are you in THI? If not, how can you comment on the job.
