I was reading Gulfport's board and there's a topic about their Chief meeting with Sheriff Coates. Has anyone heard about this?

Sure. That was said last time it went up for a vote.

I have 2 friends that work at kcpd. one just left and the other will be leaving shortly. Word from within says that they are down many right now and cant fill the spots. Others will follow including some in supervision leaving them in a jam. their contract stinks and the will soon be at the bottom so all are looking for better money.

I can't imagine that Gulfport would give up their local PD for a PCSO take over anytime soon. One of the "attractors" that the city of Gulfport is proud of is its laid-back and small town atmosphere amidst the over-populated Pinellas County.

But, I guess, never say never.

I doubt PCSO is going to take over Gulfport if Treasure Island couldn't be taken over.

Your friends are right. I am next.

The new class is in and no one from KC (or r u GP?) is in the class. Why didn't they take you?

I think the guest "guessed" at GP (read it again).

Listen very very carefully. There is a person in the newest group of hired Deputies that came to us from Gulfport PD. Is that clear enough smack tards?

Not long ago Kenneth City voted to keep their department even though the cost was more (over $400,000), It's not always about $$

I guess "guest" doesn't know much about KCPD contract. Does he know that KCPD is one of the very few city police departments that has Florida State Retirement? The only other city department to have that is T.I.

Borg Memo

Star Date: 04.12.2006

To: 11 of 14 (KCPD)

From: 480 of 3300 (PCSO)

KCPD has FRS because its a ready made retirement system. It requires little oversight on your city's (hahah) part. Same goes for TIPD. To manage your own you would pay more and have to hire someone to manage it, or give more responsibility to someone in City Hall.

Perhaps your city chose not to go with PCSO over money, perhaps not. I've worked Sector 12 (that is 2/3 Kenneth City) and have seen KCPD in action. You do nothing a Deputy couldnt do, and better. Maybe your little city likes the feeling of power. I personally think its the $$$, as you put it, that your City gets every time you fine traffic cops write tickets. Kennneth City would still get the same % of ticket fines under PCSO, but Deputies dont spedn all night writing red light violations and 10 over speeding tickets.

Plain and simple, PCSO does it better, smarter, and for less money thatn any police department. You cant argue it. Everytime your agency has something big happen, it calls PCSO. For homicides, narcotics, forensics, flight, K9, and the list goes on. Don't pat yourself on the back to hard traffic hound, your days are numbered.
