Now there's more reason to make the switch to PCSO. The Sheriff's Office just got 4 high-tech cameras & scanners for $20K each to scan up to 10,000 tags per shift. They're checked against a database of stolen vehicles and beep when you get a hit. The processor is in the cruiser trunk. Info on the tag appears on the deputy's laptop. (More are expected to arrive in the next fiscal year.)
Think that's amazaing? Wait there's more...Sheriff Jim Coats has this to say about it:
"Law enforcement has a responsibility to enforce laws and apprehend criminals."
At SPPD, we hear nothing of the sort!
Countering criticism about a potential invasion of privacy, the top cop added:
"This is just another tool for making our job easier. I don't see in any way where it even begins to infringe on someone's rights."
