As a former DC administrator, way to go US Atty. Paul Perez. Show those 2 and the others that they are not above the law.

A ten year pre indictment agreement is reasonable.

Now Crosby and Clark can see how the Federal Prison System works and subsequently how US Probation works.

PS to Crosby and Clark, many of those you screwed over work for the Fed's and they know zero tolerance and now it applies to you !

Statement from
Secretary James McDonough

Today, indictments have been handed down by the FBI and FDLE to seven former and three current DOC employees.

We have worked closely with the FDLE and FBI through the myriad phases of this operation to weed out the wrongdoings and those who have committed them. I extend my gratitude to the many employees who were instrumental in these investigations.

With these indictments come a clear signal that justice and fairness will be served to all those under the supervision of this department - cadre, inmates and offenders, alike.

The professionalism and integrity of an organization is not defined by those who break its rules, but by those who uphold them. I am proud to say that the overwhelming majority of state employees in the Department of Corrections held steadfast to their duty despite the rot that had penetrated the agency. Their integrity and strong character has been validated. Their Code of Conduct, their allegiance to the rule of law and their commitment to ensuring the public safety shines a light where others sought to hide their corruption.

While today's actions signal the culmination of a thorough investigation into the corruption that has plagued this agency for far too long, the past several months have given rise to a new day of ethical duty, high morals and a code of tough standards by which we will all live and serve.

Able men and women have ascended to fill the past voids in leadership. They represent the integrity, commitment and sense of duty that the Department of Corrections and the people of Florida deserve.

Many of the Department's employees put themselves in harm's way every day. They all command respect and will be expected to live up to these standards both on the job and off.

I look forward to continuing to serve alongside these men and women in the finest corrections department in the nation to fulfill the oath we have taken to our office and to the constitutions of the State of Florida and the United States of America.

Are the Feds giving Crosby a sweetheart deal to testify against Clark and the others, with hardly no prison time as a consequence of his unethical actions. He is the big fish and should be the one they concentrate on. He was the head of the DOC for heaven's sake. Please say it isn't true.

Crosby pleads guilty to accepting kickbacks

The former corrections chief admitted accepting the money and agreed to cooperate in a continuing investigation of others in an effort to get a reduced prison sentence.

Former Corrections Chief James V. Crosby Jr. has admitted taking more than $130,000 in kickbacks between October 2003 and February of 2006 when he was forced to resign.

In a plea agreement reached with federal prosecutors Wednesday, Crosby admitted corruptly accepting the money and agreed to cooperate in a continuing investigation of others in an effort to get a reduced prison sentence.

Allen Clark, former director of prisons in North Florida and a close Crosby associate, entered a similar agreement with prosecutors. Both men have agreed to forfeit assets acquired with the kickbacks they received.

Clark resigned on August 30, 2005, as state and federal investigators began looking at his conduct.

The kickbacks were allegedly paid by Edward L. Dugger and an associate in return for a subcontract obtained for prison canteen sales handled by Keefe Commissary Network.

Dugger is described as ""the conspirator'' in documents filed in federal court Wednesday. He did not return a telephone call from a Times reporter.

Crosby worked his way up through the state prison system after going to work in 1975 and was named Secretary of the Department of Corrections in 2003 by Gov. Jeb Bush.

At the governor's urging, Crosby joined many other state officials in pursuit of private contracts to replace canteens previously run by prison inmates. He hired Keefe in 2003 under a contract that has since been criticized by state auditors. [Last modified July 5, 2006, 16:04:41]

Depending on who he is willing to roll over on depends on the sweetheart deal...

If is higher up in State Government, and leads to high very high profile indictments then a sweetheart deal is surely in order.

Stay tuned, the Grand Jury has is still in session

He should do some real time regardless - Crosby is at the top of the food chain in this ( based on his position regardless if he initiated it or not - he profited from it ).

Any Fed. probation officers on this site?

Does a chapter 2 calculated at 32 mean not much prison time if you are a first time convicted offender like Crosby ?

I level downward departure

5 years prison, 250K fine, restitution, cost of invest, loss of state retirement...up to ten years probation following service of prison time

What a joke. Crosby the crook was setting policy for P&P. I can only hope he is a victim of his infamous "sero tolerance" policy. This clown shouldn't be allowed to run a lemonade stand! Don't bend over in the shower fat boy!

There's still one 'big fish' to hook. Note the comment "At the governor's urging..."
If Crosby rolls over on Jeb he'll get the maximum. If he keeps his mouth shut the last thing Dubya will do before he leaves office is pardon Crosby. Such is the way of family and corrupt politics.

I am not one to laugh at the misfortunes of others, however, these two brought these "misfortunes" upon themselves.

They dealt with us in a high-handed and arbitrary way.

One can only hope that these two lowlifes are dealt with in the same way.

Screw them!

Anyone else notice this? How does one get so lucky to keep their job after doing what(ever) they did and getting indicted? I know if I did the exact same thing (whatever that may be) I would not be a "current" employee. Some of us - getting caught in the rip-tide current of C-13 are still wondering "what the heck did I do?" after being treated as inhumanely as possible and as a criminal ourselves, while others (who clearly needed the treatment that we recieved) are walking around unscathed. Therefore, I am clearly excited to see that DOC employees can and will be prosecuted and charged. Hopefully, this is just the tip of the iceburg and many, many more will follow.
