The info below is posted on the Department's website. It is totally misleading to the public on what we really do as CPOs. My personal comments are posted after each bull crap section!

"Correctional Probation Officer
Employment Information
Correctional Probation Officers are responsible for performing professional work investigating, assessing, supervising, counseling, and/or classifying offenders.

Provided below is specific information pertaining to:

Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Salary

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates offender progress and recommends intensity of supervision based on observations from time of conviction through the period of adjustment after release from an institution."

WE DO NOT RECOMMEND Intensity OF SUPERVISON, IT IS DEFINED BY THE RISK CLASS OF THE OFFENDER WHICH IS AUTOMATED BY THE Department's MIS SYSTEM! THE SUPERVISING OFFICER HAS NO INPUT CONCERNING THIS MATTER UNLESS THEY WISH TO INCREASE AN OFFENDERS SUPERVISION LEVEL. THE REALITY IS MOST OFFICERS WON"T DO THIS BECAUSE IT CREATES MORE WORK FOR THEM IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT ALREADY HAS THEM MAXED OUT ON WORK.

"Assists offenders in securing jobs, maintains contacts with business organizations and employment agencies, and arrange for employment interviews."

WE DO NOT ASSIST OFFENDERS IN FINDING JOBS. WE WILL DIRECT THEM TO STATE OR LOCAL AGENCIES THAT PERFORM THIS FUNCTION. WE DO NOT ARRANGE INTERVIEWS. WE ARE BROKERS OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES, I.E. DIRECT THEM TO AN AGENCY OR OGINIZATION THAT CAN ASSIST THEM.

"Counsels and refers offenders to specialized treatment services at guidance clinics, mental health clinics, and related organizations."

WHEN THE OFFENDER PRESENTS A PROBLEM TO US THAT IS NOT COURT ORDERED, WE WILL ATTEMPT TO REFER THEM TO A PROGRAM THAT WILL ASSIST THEM. WE DO NOT COUNSEL OFFENDERS SINCE WE ARE NOT TRAINED TO COUNSEL THEM.

"Records offender restitution payments, cost of supervision, court costs, as well as other related payments."

WHEN I READ THIS I HAD TO LAUGH!!! ALL COPS PAYMENTS ARE PROCESSED IN TALLAHASSE! CPOS RECORD NOTHING!

"Maintains an awareness of offenders' daily activities and evaluates desirability to remain at liberty."

I HOPE THE DOC PERSON THAT WROTE THIS STATEMENT HAS BEEN DRUG TESTED! THE ONLY OFFICERS THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO BE AWARE OF AN OFFENDER'S DAILY ACTIVTY IS A COMMUNITY CONTROL OFFICER. THE MAJORITY OF THE CASELOADS, REGULAR PROBATION, DOP, AND SPECIALIST WOULD NOT BE AWARE OF THEIR DAILY ACITIVITIES AND ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DO SO. YES WE EVALUATE THE DESIRABLITY TO REMAIN AT LIBERTY BY ASKING THEM DO THEY WISH TO REMAIN FREE. FOR SOME STRANGE REASON THEY ALL SAY YES? ONCE AGAIN MORE BULL CRAP!

"Represents the Department of Corrections in all parole hearings for inmates assigned to caseload. Appears as a witness at parole or probation revocation hearings."

YES WE DO. THIS WAS THE MOST TRUE STATEMENT THAT THEY POSTED ON THE WEB

Responsible for the case management of all assigned inmates. Serves as a team leader or member in all case reviews to determine the direction for each case. Serves as team chairman or member of all disciplinary due process hearings for inmates assigned to caseload."

SERVES AS TEAM LEADER??? SERVES AS TEAM CHAIRMAN??? LEADER OF WHAT TEAM??? "DIRECTION FOR EACH CASE??" I HAVE TO STOP READING THIS SECTION. THE MORE I READ THIS BULLCRAP, IT IS OBIVIOUS THIS PERSON DOESN'T KNOW WHAT A CPO TRUELY DOES. SOUNDS MORE LIKE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT CLASSIFICATION OFFICERS, NOT CORRECTIONAL PROBATION OFFICERS.

"Evaluates information from reports, interviews and correspondence and prepares case histories for recommendations for inmate classification and job assignment."

ONCE AGAIN THIS ADVERTISMENT APPEARS TO BE FOR PRISON CLASSIFICATION OFFICERS, NOT CORRECTIONAL PROBATION OFFICERS!!!

Performs related work as required.

SO DO WE ALL !!!

The person who initiated this string is SOOOO right!

Whoever wrote took it apart like a lawyer would: point by point. The only thing missing is witnesses to prove the points.

From the posts that followed, it looks that those witnesses are starting to appear.

SOOOO much of what comes out of Central Office is just to make things look good, and that is SOOOOO much BS.

Why can't they just report it like it is and not just try to make it look good for the public?

What we do is enforce court orders and do what we can do to put those in jail who don't comply. We are not social workers. We are in the punishment business and there is no way Central Office can put any other face on it - unless the general public is stupid enough, naive enough or misinformed enough to believe it.

That is the reality of our job, and if we make much of a mistake doing it, we get fired.

Bottom line: It is us or the offender. Us against them and us against the management. Do your job the best you can and you might get lucky and make it. Forget something or be a little slow doing something and you will probably get fired.

What do you expect? The State of Florida told us that our personal information was secure. But the Converges Assholes exported our personal info to India! This post is just another example of our state government misleading the people.
