View Full Version : Sex Caseload Equalization

Did anyone else get the mandate that sex offender caseloads must all be at 40 cases? Our admin stated it came from central office but I have my doubts. It screwed up the boundaries around here and now people drive all over the damn place.

What's new? Haven't the Specialists always been required to have 40? It's a shame how tax dollars are being wasted :(

We have had more than 40- I can deal with it. What I have trouble dealing with is the constant changing of the cases. Everytime I get to not only "know" a case, but fix the file, I have to switch cases to even out whatever Central office has decided needs to be even. Hey Tallahassee, nothing stays the same, all cases fluctuate! If these cases are so dangerous, then let the specialist supervise them and establish some type consistency, so no policy issues or contacts are missed.

It is way past time we stopped using the old work hour formula -you know the one that started out with 25 cc = 1 cc officer.

The thinking and figures were wrong then they are worse now. SInce they pegged sex offenders to 40 they have added a whole host of new duties -like the newest one If a sex offender is in jail with no place to live the specialist is to visit him weekly in jail in case he comes up with a place??? i.e an incarcerated sex offender has a higher contact requirement than a case on the streets??

I say take a realistic look at what we do. Decide what is important. Decide what we can accomplish with the staff we have. Set caseload size and contact requirement as accordingly. If the legislature wants more than give us more troops to do the job.

Read the OPPAGA report. Let's discuss why we don't follow their recommendations every time they write one.

OPPAGA? Didn't I see them in concert last year? Darth Duck, you rule! Maybe we don't pay attention to the report because it makes sense or maybe we already have too much reading (i.e. ppd's, memos and "how we are going to bring trust back to DOC" letters from above) that we can't absorb any other information. Just a thought.

Are you saying specialist should have more than 40 offenders or less than 40 offenders?

I'm saying they should have 40. The original poster sounded distraut over having to shuffle so many cases in a hurry.....how stupid is that? Can you tell us what his supervisor has been doing all the while he wasn't at 40 cases? How ridiculous is it that the sups can't count to 40 every month? If they can't manage then give them a caseload....Lord only knows there's plenty of felons to supervise.

I may be misinterpreting what the person meant about the 40 cases. Like I said, I have had more that 40 cases, and the reshuffling has come from officers going out on leave, demotions and firings and now it has come to equalization of TYPES of cases each specialist has, i.e. same # of sex offenders, crds, etc. but always maintaining 40 cases. Maybe my circuit is the only one that reads more into what is required of them and as a result the officers suffer. Paranoia is a wonderful thing!
