Hiring is a tricky thing. Applications are screened by usf hr then given to usfpd. An additional screening is done by a very competent retired detective. Those chosen are then given an initial interview by a command staff member. Those chosen are then sent to an oral board. The applicants are ranked amd based on the performance in the oral board the top choices are sent through to background. A trained and experienced background investigator completes a thorough background investigation based on what is legally allowed. The person is given a conditional offer if they make it that far. Many are washed by the background inveatigator. However, up until this point there is no ability to see what the person is capable of. It is an educated guess and assumption that they might work out. Hence the year long probatiobary period. In years past po's were kept around even if they weren't cutting it. However in recent past the probationary period has been used to remove problem employees. At the same time the agency has a responsibility to attempt to train to the best of their ability the employee it hires. So. When you ask the question try to keep the above in mind. Let the process work. It has for the most part. But there are always exceptions.
