Recently, a adult son cuts off his moms head in Oldsmar, today, a undoubtedly disturbed individual, throws his 5 year old off the SkyWay bridge. Society really doesnt have much sympathy for the heinous type crimes involving the mentally Ill, but what can be done? Lets start by admitting that their are some people that are so defective that they are a danger to others. Lets admit that involuntary confinement and on going sustained treatment, that is very expensive, has been shunned due to costs. Lets admit that keeping them in jail is much cheaper than intensive medical treatment in a medical facility. Lets admit, that getting involuntary commitments are difficult. Lets admit, few in society, can afford extensive mental health treatment, and even then, no assurances can be made that the treatment can fix every person that is defective. G, it will take a concerted effort to bring about changes, but noone seems to have the stomach for the costs or the reinstitution of the involuntary facilities that is a place of last resort for the insane that cannot function in society.
