I would like to know how citizens are ever expected to trust Law Enforcement, when Deputies are allowed to violate their rights and abuse them with no consequences.

Deputies employed with the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office have not only violated citizens’ rights by using excessive force and making unlawful arrest but they even target other Law Enforcement officials when they are identified as law violators and given consequences. What happen to integrity? Hendry County Deputies have gone so far as to threaten other Law Enforcement officers with physical violence and retaliation while on duty in uniform with no consequences of merit or at least non that fit the violation. Citizens of Hendry County, you have let your law enforcement agency get out of control. You are heading back to the days of old where the Sheriff was able to commit crimes and get away with it.
It took a federal agency going after other criminals to stop that Sheriff. I fear for where we are heading.

I spoke to Law Enforcement who were on the scene and this is almost exactly as they say it went down.

Hendry County—What began as a Friday night out at Brenda’s Place quickly turned into chaos, when an argument resulted in Deputy Ricky Garcia with the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) discharging his taser into a crowded area.

Brenda’s was lively that night. Witnesses stated there were more than 30 people pouring out from the bar onto the back patio, where an argument suddenly broke out between Jamar Eugene Boykin and Deangelo Lamar Huston in the early morning hours.

Boykin explained that Huston ran into him and he retaliated by shoving Huston out of the way.

“I didn’t realize who it was that bumped into me,” said Boykin, who explained that he is friends with Huston and was beginning to walk back over to him when Deputy Garcia, according to Boykin and several other witnesses, came up to Boykin and exclaimed “I will drop you like a badass addiction.”

Boykin claims he asked the officer what he said when he was hit with the taser darts.

Though many who witnessed the events may have been under the influence of alcohol, a source close to The Clewiston News, who was sober during the altercation, confirmed the picture that several witnesses painted.

“[Boykin] stepped back and said something like ‘What are you talking about? Who are you?’ And that was when the taser made contact,” explained the sober source. “But the taser wasn’t effective because of [Boykin’s] shirt, so he got up and tried to kick [Deputy Garcia].”

The source further explained that the deputy was not distinguishable, as he was wearing a grey shirt and made no effort to explain to Boykin that he was with HCSO.

“He shot the taser in a crowd full of people. At that point, he was risking the safety of the public,” stated the source. “If that taser had touched somebody else it would have shocked them too.”

However, the arrest report, which was written by Deputy Garcia told a much different story.

According to the report, when Deputy Garcia moved in on the situation he “went to where the disturbance was located and made contact with Boykin and requested that he come with me from off the patio and away from the crowd. Boykin refused my request and backed up to the door.

“I requested again and told Boykin he would be tased if he didn’t honor my request. Boykin refused my request and stood off in an aggressive manner. I then drew and deployed the issued Hendry County Sheriff’s Office X-26 Taser, making contact in Boykin’s chest.”

The report went on to state that “Boykin pulled the taser probes from his chest and ran at me and kicked me, making contact on the left side of my chest and right arm. Boykin was escorted to the ground and placed in hand restraints.”

Furthermore, Deputy Garcia explained that the cause for using his taser was due to Boykin being “located at a public place and causing a disturbance that could have injured or endangered the safety of the public.”

Kevin Hooker, who was behind Boykin during the time the taser was deployed, explained that he did not feel threatened by Boykin, but rather by the red light emitting from the taser.

Hooker explained that after the incident occurred, Deputy Garcia approached Huston and asked him whether or not he wanted to press charges against Boykin, to which Huston stated twice that he did not.

That would be the most recent.
