View Full Version : BSO TAKEOVER

Morale is so low at the embattled Hollywood Police Department that some officers actually want the Broward Sheriff's Office to take over the agency, says union leader Jeff Marano.

He points to a flier circulating around town that spells out why a merger makes sense, including better pay and benefits. (100 percent correct)

In 2011, Hollywood forced police and firefighters to take 12.5 percent pay cuts after declaring financial urgency. The same year, Hollywood voters approved drastic changes to the city's employee pension plans. (THANK YOU VERY MUCH CITIZENS AND WHAT A SHAFT FOR THE OFFICERS THAT RISK THEIR LIFE EVERY DAY TO PROTECT YOU!)

The flier did not impress Commissioner **** Blattner, who believes just two or three malcontents were behind it.
Blattner had a message for whoever wrote the flier: If you want to go to BSO, go. But don't expect the entire department to go with you.
"We are the third-largest city in Broward," Blattner said. "Why would we want to go to BSO?" (If you were a police officer you idiot, you were understand!)

This week, resident Jerry Viskocil complained to the commission about corruption within the police department, but said Thursday he opposed a merger.

"Don't kid yourself that BSO is any better," he said. (This fool probably voted to cut our benefits and pay! What do you know about the pay and benefits of BSO compared to Hollywood)

BOTTOM LINE:::::::::: WE HAVE HAD OUR PAY, BENEFITS AND PENSION TURNED UPSIDE DOWN DUE TO INCOMPETENCE AND MISMANAGEMENT BY THE ADMINISTRATION.

No thanks.. Keep your green

This is nothing more than propaganda from the police union trying to get a good contract & raise of our tax money..........bottom line, nice try. Any tax increase will cost the politician at voting time.......watch! Tax payers are sick or the little games with unions.

Having what used to be one of the best Police Departments in the entire country, let alone in Florida, force 12.5% paycuts and massive benefits cuts to their officers is unacceptable. HPD now makes less than almost any other agency in South Florida with the exception of Riveria Beach. HPD used to be THE best place to work years ago - and now it's turned into a political nightmare that wants the police to work for next to nothing.

As much as it would pain me to see HPD go green....it's the right thing for the department so that their guys can get fair wages and decent benefits.

To anyone who thinks HPD or BSO is overpaid, you have NEVER been a cop one day in your life and have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I predicted that Hollywood would go BSO and it looks like that may be the case. Connect the dots by looking at the timeline and you would see it leaning in that direction.

1) There is some talk about going BSO and it dies down a bit.

2) Chief Wagner announces his retirement and at a commision meeting it is brought up
that he should stay. The mayor and other commissioners have good things to say
about him but do not offer to rehire him.

3) There is more talk once again about going BSO.

4) The former chief is off one week and gets a Captian's position with BSO with no
district. He wanted Cooper City but that did not pan out as it was up to the city.

5) The cards show up encouraging officers to go BSO.

6) There is still no talk about who the new chief may be as Vinnie has it temporarily.
All people know is that it will be from within the department according to assistant
city manager Fernandez.

Coincidence? I don't think so. This has been planned in advance. Don't be surprised if Hollywood ends up going BSO and Wagner returns as captain.

Please!!. You are reading too much into it. Facts:1- its cheaper to keep us it would cost the city 2 million more to go to BSO, 2-the city said it twice to us, if you want to go BSO, quit and apply there. 3-The membership can have all the meetings about wanting to go BSO the commission/citizens changes their mind. The commission has the power, not us (see 1).
Did you even go to the meeting? less than a quarter of the membership was there and nobody has even spoken to the sheriff about it. This was a waste of time. If you dont like it here and want to go BSO see 2.

If you work at HPD....you would want to go to BSO. You already had your salary slashed 12.5 % and your benefits GUTTED. You think these idiots in City Hall give a sh*t about you? You think they care that they will steal your pension before your retire?

The bottom line is that HPD is continuously getting screwed by City Hall, and if you don't go green, you're going to be stuck with MUCH less than you guys deserve.

BSO is not the be all, or even a great agency by any means, but it's better than what HPD has now.

02-28-2013, 12:38 AM
At this point merging with BSO is the best option. The City does not care about us. This is almost two years later and nothing has changed. Things have just gotten worse. The large majority wants to go there and everyone that keeps saying that no one wants to go to BSO needs to open their eyes! We waited and waited for even a sliver of hope but its not coming. Time to go BSO.

Lessor lever of service. You meant lesser level of service. Are you kidding me? Have you called 911 lately in Hollywood? They take forever to respond. I do not care about corruption in the department or in City Hall. They are all crooks! Just please respond when we call 911 and do your jobs.

02-28-2013, 10:58 AM
Why oh why would anyone at HPD want to stay Hollywood PD instead of going BSO?? Somebody please tell me the benefit of it. Don't worry I'll wait. The only people that it might benefit are people in specialized units or CI (for the time being) and some guys that have been there a little bit and don't want to leave their comfort zone within the department. They're nervous that they'll get transfered, get a different shift, have a new boss, abide by different rules, or some other petty non-sense that in the long run means nothing.

Even though its not up to you guys, here are some things to think about; the majority of us here at BSO are happy with the over all run of things. If you truly believe in your heart of hearts that Leoaffairs bloggers are a realistic representative of our agency than you're a naive idiot. You have opportunities to work all around the county. More opportunities to get in specialized units. Work more details. Make more money. Have a better retirement. We're changing the uniforms. Better cars are coming. Our SWAT is going full time. We're revamping our CID and SID (not that there was anything wrong but new Sheriff and all you know the deal). The list goes on.

I know your city commissioners said it would save more money with the way they're doing it but Jesus how much more can you guys get screwed. And dont listen to the above poster. BSO is a GREAT AGENCY!! Im not even a big fan of the current sheriff but its still a great agency and a great place to work. This whole county needs to be one agency. I dont picture FLPD, Coral Springs, or Pem Pines coming over but I think Hollywood needs to get on board. Stay safe

HEY BSO TAKEOVER
Only 11% of the scum residents of Hollyhood voted to change the pension...The cityhall are fools, they lost a lwasuit and were charged attorney fees of $1400. They offered $1000, they said no, went to court again, city lost and had to pay $3400. City hall does not know how to do anything right but spend and loose money.

03-01-2013, 02:53 AM
What kind of Civil Service protection do you have at BSO? NONE.....someone doesn't like you and you are gone.....then no pension, no OT, no specialized unit, no Nothing.

Um....no. If you're a captain or above then u have no protection. The deps, like every other officer/dep I know, are protected by their respective unions. Is they could just fire you because they don't like you then a lot of people would be out of jobs. BSO is a great place to work. Don't let malcontents and anti Bso "anonymous" bloggers fool u into thinking otherwise. Most don't even work here

Re: South Florida PD to Contract with BSO

by Jdonofrio » 03/02/13 01:45:55

That would be great not to say that BSO does not have their own problems but it could not be worse than Margate PD's current administration. A particular night shift that has a female sgt and bald male Lt. Have been breaking the law and having their officers write tickets making a quota, bullying them, belittling them, the female sgt has made unwanted sexual advances to many male officers that will not come forward due to reduclue and embarrassment, and officers have been removed shifts and other specailized units for refusing to break the law for these supervisors. This unethical, law breaking, heanous behavior by the mentioned supervisors. These supervisors have not been split up, written up, investigated, demoted, fired, or arrested for this behavior but rather allowed to wreak havoc over the Margate, FL police department. The Current Chief of police, being handed the position by his "godfather" the current city manager, has done nothing to put a stop to this horrible behavior. He has actually been under investigaton for unlawfully commanding several people in the Street crimes unit while he was a Sgt. To follow his then wife... Now ex wife...around to see if she was cheating on him, he used city vehicles to move his residence several times, allowed his son to live in an apartment by himself that he was supposed to be living in for a reduced amount of rent that he was to be a courtesy officer for. He did this for several years in an apartment complex in the city of margate. Another supervisory unethical incident at the Margate Police Department is that of the current female IA supervisor. When she was in the SOD unit she was caught having sex and sexual encounter on duty with a then and current boyfriend male sgt. That has just been moved to the DB. She was supposed to be watching a target but instead in an undercover vehicle having sex with the sgt. Boyfriend all while on duty then forged documents saying she was on watching the target. The IA Sgt. has been recently heard saying that there is a road patrol officer that would not f- her (have sex with her) and false allegations about him have been brought to her attention. Although the allegations are not true she is pissed at him and is going to do everything she can to force the witnesses to change their story so she can make sure he gets fired. She has recently forced an employee to take a statement against her will about these false allegations! This kinda of behavior by officials is horrible. I beg of individuals to post and have all these incidents anonymously investigated to ensure the safety of the officers Being tormented. I hope the FBI or any other worthy investigatory entity to come into the Margate Police Department to investigate these horrid acts.
