Is not a secret that we are going through a generation that is in decay. Little care for traditional values, for principles, morals and priorities. The quality of college students in a national scale is also in decay.
All these is the direct result of Postmodernism. From a road patrols perspective, we can say that Postmodernism is the revolt against Modernity. Means, The rejection of Simetry, Structures, predicted patterns, fashions in orderly array etc..This also translate into the revolt against authorities, traditional values and traditional understanding of every sphere of human life, arts, politics, religion, morals, science etc. etc… Postmodernism is the way of building a new infraestructure (civil engeneering) for a new human civilization. Such currents of challenging that which has being established as indispensable for human way of life, is in felt in our Campus through the Architecture.
I noticed that the majority of the buildings in our campus are not shaped in a squared form, like the PAC and the Museum for example. Further more, they don’t face the traditional north, south, east or west orientations for instance, all the HLS buildings. They lack a main entrance, take the CBC or the DM, or PCA for instances, their purposely don’t have a main lobby. Some have multiple roof systems, like the GC and GL. Some others like the Law School which has multiple floors arranged in their interior in a very odd fashion. Even the dorms themselves exhibit the same features of postmodernism.
The layout of the Campus is also Postmodern. Very few streets follows a north-south / east-west traditional orientation. Is really hard to determine at what point exactly 17th st becomes 108th ave or 10th st becomes 113th ave. And many other roads which doesn’t follow a traditional straight approach.
Philosophically speaking, all these features ended up affecting and re-shaping in a general way, the approach to life of individuals and their decision process . Little by little their surroundings are being voided of all traditional approaches. This phenomenon of architecture and civil engineering helps to understand the existential crisis of the younger generations. Not just of students, but of officers as well.
My understanding is that just as people got tired and Rejected Modernity as a way of life, eventually Postmodernism will also be rejected and will be replaced for maybe a happy medium between the two.
That explain the fact that most likely every young individuals we make contact with on society chances are that is utterly Postmodern and as such, has little interest in authority, tradition, reason, values, goals, or even logic. Is not that they are stupid, but that they have being enamored with the charms of Postmodernism that their infatuation with it has affected their objectivity.
In the mean time, they keep building these kind of buildings and communities futherly fueling the Postmodern mentality of its inhabitants. This makes the work of Law Enforcement even harder, since Postmodernism rejects not only symetry but also order and discipline.
Right now, the situation demands no just more investment in Law Enforcement, but more investment in Modernity (Traditional way of Life).
