Let's hope that the city votes to have the PC SO take over all police activities in SPB in November. It will save the taxpayers a lot of money, provide more resources, and improve safety of the city. :D :cop: :D

Agreed, best thing to do is for the SO to take over. The police officers would be hired as deputies and have the FRS instead of a failed pension fund.

you are idiots for wanting to get rid of a police depaartment. You think the county, with all its budget issues, will do a better job? You get what you pay for. Good luck.

You obviously do not understand the concept of economies of scale. In layman's terms, would you rather shop at 7-11 or Sam's Club for your groceries? Shutting down St.Pete Beach Police and contracting the work to the sheriff's department would save money and improve service. The city and the pension funds are broke so bankruptcy is a viable option. If that happens the pensions will be cut by a court appointed administrator based on the money remaining in the pension funds.

save money???? St. Pete Beach police make scraps for a salary. You think the sheriffs department is cheaper? You are kidding me right? They charge for everything. Prepare for increased taxes just to cover your little beach. Oh ya, what about the public safety aspect. Thats right, wait until 911 is called and the time of response is longer because there are fewer officers. I predict increased burglaries, increased violent crimes, and higher taxes. You get what you pay for.

The SO's budget comes from the county not from the cities it serves. An SO takeover would eliminate most of the overlapping management positions and save money in the long run. Service and response time would be improved because the SO has better support infrastructure.
