It took me a little while but I have finally figured out the game.
If you suck up to your supervisor you will get unlimited information and even if you are lazy you will be protected. Some of the laziest people I have ever met are in positions they would have never gotten if someone was not looking out for them.
There's a morale issue, in part, due to the perceived favoritism that seems to be running rampant. If you are going to hang out off duty that's fine, but keep in mind the way it might look to the outsiders when you make changes that impact them. If favoritism does not bother you, you are probably benefiting from it. People just want to be treated fairly and with respect. Just because they don't have the same level of education does not make them dumb. Make an effort to treat others like you wish to be treated and you'll be amazed at the response.
