Homicides keeping Oakland police busy

Police are trying to identify a woman found dead Thursday morning on an East Oakland street.
There was no visible trauma to the woman and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
She was found about 7:15 a.m. in the 1600 block of East 22nd Street by a resident walking a dog.
If the woman's death turns out to be a homicide, it would be the city's 101st of the year, six more than all of last year.
Police on Thursday were also still investigating five homicides that happened in Oakland between Oct. 27 and Monday. No one has been charged in any of the cases and police are still unsure of motives.
The 100th homicide victim was Avian Hay, 32, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds about 8:13 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Kirkham Court in West Oakland. Police said he was visiting friends in the area when he was shot.
A 19-year-old man shot Sunday night in East Oakland also died Monday. He was identified as Luis A. Garibay of Oakland. A 20-year-old man who was with him was wounded in the arm. The shooting happened about 12:41 a.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of Rosedale Avenue.
On Nov. 1 at 2:45 a.m. a 32-year-old Army reservist and security guard from Fremont died after being shot in the 500 block of El Paseo Drive in the Sobrante Park area. Police said Darian Stone, the father of three children, had come to Oakland with some friends to celebrate Halloween and ended up at a party on El Paseo. Officer Doug Keely said Stone got into a confrontation with someone and was shot.
On Oct. 30, a 90-year-old man died from injuries sustained Oct. 26 during an apparent beating at his home in the 2600 block of 25th Avenue. He was identified as Antonio Munoz. Police were told he had lived in the house for 40 years.
And on Oct. 27, 34-year-old Frank Hartwell of Oakland was shot to death in the 2500 block of 109th Avenue.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in each homicide case for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572 or 510-777-3211.
