DUNEDIN, Fla. - A Safety Harbor man apparently drowned while kayaking near Honeymoon Island Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses walking along the beach around 4 p.m. spotted a kayak adrift several yards off shore, and then saw a man floating in the water not far away, according to the Pinellas Sheriff’s Office
After pulling him ashore beachgoers attempted CPR on the boater, identified as 52-year-old Patrick Willoughby of Safety Harbor, but were unable to revive him.
Paramedics arrived, and after again attempting CPR, pronounced him dead at the scene.
Beachgoers remembered seeing him earlier in the day, boating by himself, the Pinellas Sheriff’s Office said. His car was found in the parking lot, and family members also confirmed that he had gone kayaking.
Marine deputies are continuing to investigate Willoughby’s death, but at this time it does not appear suspicious.
Where was the DEP LEO crew? Maybe blocking in cars with expired tags waiting for the owner to return?
