Ft. Lauderdale PD Message Board - Do You Want To Keep It?

Do you want LEOAFFAIRS.COM to maintain a Message Board for your agency on their site? Please take the above Poll to let me know while I review our policy on the matter.

While I agree that often the non-sense and bad grammer that is aired on the FLPD Blog makes the Department look bad. [Spell check feature would be a great improvement. Hint, hint!] Limiting freedom of speech is not the solution. I believe if the Command handled things with accuracy, truthfulness, fairness, and with common reason and discretion, then people would not have reason to post negative comments that make the Department look bad. It is called leadership-- leadership by example. Instead we have a clear double standard system. Citizens and fellow officers have a right to know the truth about what is happening. This message board is one way to get the truth out and to prevent the Department from vindictiveness and coverups that they are commonly known for. Knowledge is king. While I personnal oppose negative and nasty and personal postings, I am in favor of allowing an anyomous unedited forum for discussion.

There is a great quote from the new Wall St. Movie that fits FLPD insiders very well. "You stop telling lies about me and I will stop telling the truth about you."

The reason the request to shut down our board was simple. The owner of Leoaffairs is the State FOP President. There were numerous posts about current investigations and grievances, some started by the media. This was a detriment to my lodge.

You may want to reword the above question as it is the polar opposite of the question in the pole. You ask "are you in agreement with the FOP's request that your message board be shut down". I clicked on the link and almost answered no for not being in agreement, but then realized the pole was worded opposite of the above question.

On another note, the Poll is only one of the ways I am collecting data on this subject. LEOs sending email to me at info@leoaffairs.com are the most important, so please keep those emails coming.

Only votes from OUR lodge count...no media, no repeat votes, no civilians??? How will you know?

This is only a forum to spread negativity, gossip and other sewage and YOU are getting rich off it while claiming to be providing a service to the LEP community. Give me a break, this site, while I beleiove was CREATED for just purposes has morphed into a totally different monster. Look at the posts from the other departments too. Its not unique to FLPD. You know it, but your wallet may be overriding your better judgement.

You know it's funny, aren't you the same person who JL protected from the media and blogs like this when you couldn't say the safe word quick enough and you had to be brought back to life?

I need this site to make myself feel better. You see, I am not going to be a catalyst for change in my department, I am just going to complain about it on this "for-profit" web site. I am a watcher. I will sit back and watch the very things that affect me play out before my very eyes and come home and type about it. A real patriot, I am.Please dont take down my site......I need it. If it was gone, I may actually have to muster up the gonads to tell someone how I feel to their face. Witht hsi site I cn continue to say all the great things I would do except for my fear of revenge and reprisals from the bad people in admin. The way they went after those hard working cops that have been in trouble lately...they were victims I tell you. And the 10% raise I got when other departments are laying people off. Unreal. And the city manager who was run out of here by the FOP (soon to be followed by his friends). I cant take it any more. The conditions are unbearable. This is not worth the 150K a year I make after 3 years here.

That information was clearly just one agency talking to another which this site claims to support. So the lesson here is you can spam our site with Police Chief BS, but if you post word for word information that is here it will be erased like a communist newspaper.

Well MOD 360 removed it from the site again. It did not violate any rules or terms, yet we had to see all the WMPD post. He also locked it up. Was that with your OK MOD 1 ?????

I understand the purpose behind putting LEOAFFAIRS.COM online and I highly respect it. The ability to talk about issues affecting our department has caused the FLPD to pay attention to what's posted. I've seen things change for the positive and I've seen resistance to the site from those who don't want change or who want no accountability. That said, I've seen some attempt to use this site for their own private interests and that's a shame. While I feel it detracts from the site, I don't believe it ruins it. Let's face it, our own officers are the ones posting on here and if there wasn't anything to post about, I don't believe they would. The old saying "Where there's smoke, there is fire" comes to mind. We have some problems at the FLPD, but the agency as a whole is a great place to work. The only suggestion I can make besides putting the site back up is to find a way for the unproductive posting to slow down. A lot of this is the agency's fault, but it would be nice for people to address the problems instead of eliminating a site that was built to fix them. I'm already aware of someone who is building a replacement site with plans to house it out of the country and without any form of moderation. I don't know how he plans to get the word out about the site when it's finished, but I do not support his efforts because he strictly wants to fuel the fire with a gossip site. As for our FOP president, Jack, it's obvious to everyone that there is an agenda here and I don't believe he is representing the best interests of the members (I am no longer a union member). I have researched enough to know that such sites are protected federally by law and that they do not even have to moderate the site. The content posted is not from them, but from our own police officers, and they cannot be sued for having it on a site. Sounds to me like they have been trying to do the right thing and, although maybe not perfect, they are at least trying.

Nice post Sysop, Tampa cop, or whoever. A little tip. If you're going to pose as one of us, do your reasearch first. We have 100% FOP membership. That gave you away. Second, only the owner would call it "LEOAFFAIRS>COM ONLINE." Third, your site sucks and is the very root of the problems at most agencies lately...BACKSTABBING, lying and trash talking. The press posts crap and eats our responses up like candy. You a so transparent its humorous.

You see Chip, the issue is that someone can post on here using my name or yours and write things like leoaffairs sucks, and then people will think that it came from union leadership and that it is the direction the union should go. If you make everyone have to log in it may help.

What happened to open government. You do remember we work for the government don't you! The only people that have to fear free and open discussion are the ones that have something to hide. People often accuse the Police of cover ups-- closing down this site does not help that stereo type, in fact it reinforces it.

Sometimes the most simple solution is the first solution overlooked. If you personnally don't like this web site and blog-- its simple-- don't come here and don't read it. But why force your personal view on everyone else.

I rather doubt this blog impacts Internal Affairs investigations. A Professional Internal Department should be able to base their investigations on accurate verified facts in an unbias manner. One would think Internal Affairs should be professional enought to be able to do their job without concern for unverified ramblings on some blog. If the blog is preventing that-- maybe its the people in IA that need to go-- not the website blog.

As I explained to Jack Lokeinsky, that is NOT TRUE. If you take the time to check, you'll see that I am a registered user under my name of "chipdeblock". I even have an avatar with my picture attached to this profile. I am the only one capable of using this name and even guest posters are prevented from using it. If the real issue is that you are unwilling to create a free account on LEOAFFAIRS in order to protect your identity, then the problem lies with you and not this website.
