Law enforcement agencies to conduct SWAT training Wednesday

Law enforcement agencies from throughout the southwest Florida area will be conducting a joint SWAT training session on Wednesday at the old Lee County Public Schools administration building on Fowler Street.

The training will be from 8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m.

“Several of our agencies have talked about pooling our resources, exchanging ideas and working together to develop a more regional approach in providing these specialized police services,” said Captain Kurt Gra, Cape Coral’s SWAT team commander. “We have at least nine agencies participating in this joint training operation, which is the first step toward potentially creating a Region 6 SWAT Task Force team.”

In addition to Cape Coral Police, other confirmed participants include Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers PD, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Naples PD, Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Bradenton PD and Lee County EMS.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office may also participate. Agencies providing support for the operations are the Lee County School Board, Lee County Emergency Management and Southwest Florida Public Safety Academy. All participating agencies will be putting into practice the National Incident Management System to improve critical incident management and coordination.
