Everyone in F.R.S. took a substantial hit in the wallet on April 1st. This was no April Fools Joke. Special recognition is given to Rep. Charles McBurney (R) Duval County. He originally voted against HB 5701, which allowed him to be on the prevailing side. A short time later, and I mean a matter of minutes, 3 other members of the House arrived in the chamber after the vote. They were Rep. Adams, Rep. Eisnaugle and Rep. Kelly, So, Rep. McBurney made the motion to Reconsider. The three late arrivals, all Republicans, vote in favor of HB 5701. Rep. McBurney switched sides along with Rep. Homan (R) Hillsborough & Pasco, Rep. Kreegel (R) Charlotte and Desoto, and Rep. Trudi Williams (R) Collier & Lee, all voting in favor of the bill. Rep. McBurney and the other three who changed their votes leaves the impression that they only wanted to be on the winning side.

Kudos to Rep. Ambler (R) Hillsborough; Rep. Anderson (R) Pasco & Pinellas; Rep. Coley (R) Calhoun, Liberty, Bay, Gadsden, Jackson, Leon, Okaloosa, Wakulla & Walton; Rep. Drake (R) Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Okaloosa & Walton; Rep. Evers (R) Escambia, Okaloosa & Santa Rosa; Rep. Hooper (R) Pinellas;Rep. Planas (R) Miami-Dade; Rep. Robaina (R) Miami-Dade; Rep. Troutman (R) Hardee, Highlands & Polk; and Rep. Van Zant (R) Putnam, Bradford, Clay, Lake, Marion & Volusia for standing with all 44 Democrat Representatives who voted to oppose the bill.

We all must remember that this was not just a L.E.O. issue but effects everyone past and present who are enrolled in the Florida Retirement System. All F.R.S. members need to unite in an effort to get this wrong righted. One way is to elect Florida legislators that will get the job done. ...
