Here are the crime stats at FIU.
My book was stolen at the library. Some one took it while I was looking at the hot chick that walked by me with the tiny skirt and the big ass and fake tetas.

Some punk kid pulled the emergency intercom in parking lot 7.

Some punk kids are skateboarding in the garage.

There is a water balloon fight in the dorms.

I see by your opinion about the nature of the criminal activity that FIUPD encounter and deter on campus, that you sir/madam are basing your opinion in other source other than reality.

Granted we are not the county, the city of Miami pd or opalocka pd. However, our officers are better trained and even more experienced than some of the officers that works in other departments right here on Miami-Dade county area.

We do come across to a lots of serious career criminals right here in our campuses both at daylight and on midnights.

Again, let me be objective, we don’t have shootings and robberies in every corner as other jurisdictions have (not yet). However, we encounter lots of individuals who have no legitimate purpose for being on campus, just wandering around looking for potential victims and opportunities for criminal activities.

These are my suggestions, first take a ride along with either one of our afternoon or midnight squats.

Second, do the same thing with Micosukkee pd, key biscaine pd, pinecresst pd, golden beach pd, surfside pd, sunny island pd etc..etc…

Third, compare them both and you will see that we get a superior level of exposure to crime and criminals than these other agencies does. (please, notice that we are comparing a university campus with cities and yet still, we get way more crime than these other jurisdictions)

Fourth, if you are basing your opinion of a “campus free of crime”, most likely than not, you are believing the “Beacon” too much.

The fact is the weekly arrests and police work that our officers do, are never published in the Beacon because it does not correspond to the kind of public image that the university is interested in.

Whatever the discipline problems, the current pervasive low morale, the lack of interest from the side of the university in investing heavily in its own police department, etc…etc…and all the negativity. We should appreciate the superior level of proactivity that most of our officer show every day.

I take pride in knowing that sometimes even though there are only 2 officers working still, they go around patrolling the campuses and still making those arrests!... our officers are not afraid of engaging and enforcing the law. eventh thouhg their radios migth not be the best and their patrol cars are over used. They go out and do the best with what they got.

Is a shame that this attitude is never acknowledged by the university politicians and administrators….get real….take a ride along and put the beacon away for a while.
No offence intended…
Farewell Thomas.
