shift work

nearby officer adn am currently working on a proposal to my department on shift bids. Currently everyone works where there assigned and you cant change it unless theres an act of god. Our department members what to come up with possibly every 6 months you can bid for if your on day shift or night shift and it will go by seniority, and possible even bidding on what area of the city you work in. Biggest problem our admin is saying will happen is the night shift will be all the new people and there wont be any experience. any insight? thanks

I know a lot of guys who prefer the thrill of nights and will not go to days just because they can from seniority. Usually rookies will be placed by needs of the department since they have no seniority and this bumps some senior guys to a shift they dont want but it helps mix the young with the old. I dont think its a bad idea but it doesnt effect my position.
