The link in this post will direct you to the Florida FOP website regarding the impasse bill that will be voted on by the senate next week. Please open the link and e-mail the senators and tell them to vote against the bill. This bill, along with a mirror bill in the house, will destroy our ability to be treated fairly if passed. This bill will change statute 447 by means of adding the constitutional officers as the "Legislative Body" ONLY for impasse issues. This is being done because the sheriff's know that they do NOT meet the requirement of a legislative body as defined in chapter 447. The Sheriffs do not want to have the true legislative body tell them how to spend the taxpayers monies that the legislative body gives them. It should be noted that the FSA (Florida Sheriff's Association) is backing this bill. Please open the link, send e-mails to the senators and then forward the link to all of your friends, families, neighbors etc. The FOP has already filed cases with PERC about this exact issue in Pasco and Clay Counties. In both of those counties, the PERC hearing officer has ruled against the Sheriffs and ruled that the Sheriff is NOT the legislative body. So, typical of the FSA Good Ol' Boys mentality, they figured that they would just get the law changed. It's time to take action and be treated with the same amount of respect that our municipal brothers and sisters are afforded.
