Information needed

Hello I am an Employee of Florida International University. A friend who is employee of the City of Miami Police Department told me that FIU is getting a new Chief. He said that an upper level FIU Public Safety official and retired member of Public Safety were meeting with university officials to bring a former City of Miami Assistant Chief Vega to the department. Also Mr. Vega just step down form Police Department job in New Jersey to take the job.

There was some unhappiness with members of Public Safety Management Staff over the way they have been treated and pay issues. Some of the members of the Command staff have been over at the Charles Perry Building lobbying for Mr.Vega.

When I first learned of this did not believe it and believed I may have been given false information. Bill has always been well respected in the FIU community. I hope for FIU this is just failed attempt by few discontented members of his leadership team.

The only uncertainties I have are several news articles online that state Vega did step down from his current job to move back to Florida I hope that Bill does stay with FIU and this not in anyway racially motivated.

I posted this on here because my friend told me this is a good site to get information from Law Enforcement Community.

Does anyone known about this? Is that the same guy that ret. sgt W.P. always talked about. I think he applied when the last chief retired but he had problems in New York.

Well I know short shorts is up marques a**. Could be any one from the commaned staff. Keep the chief get rid of the snake.

i have been hearing in centrel po saying that few city brass maybe going over to FIU if the fomer AC gets the job. The romor is some brass at the top he would removed from FIU and he would put the few guys that have been helping at the top and also1 or 2 guys from the city. help this clears things up.

I don’t think this will happen. I don’t see the new president playing back door deals. Remember if these guys are doing this to the chief then what would they do to you. What does say about anyone that would take a job in this manner?

Vega was busted as an NYPD Capt for altering crime rates for his area. He appealed, and a board said the penalty was excessive, but he did do what was charged. He got nada money wise as he was working. In Miami, civil service found he wrongly punished detectives for not investigating his identity theft case. It occurred outside the city and the detectives had no jurisdiction. Good Luck, your going to need it.

Hi FIU Police administration, I work at human resource, and I would like to know what are your civilian duties (Wendy), since I've received numerous complains from several officers that they're the one actually doing her job, such as entering traffic reports in the computer system, and traffic citations. Anyone? Director? Ochipa?
