View Full Version : City of Largo -- It is a two way street.

The following is my opinion on the recent matter between the City of Largo, and two of our more senior officers. Before I get into anything I would like to voice my appreciation to Chief Aradi, Deputy Chief Carrol, and anyone else within the police department that helped defend their loyal officers and watch our backs every day. It is greatly appreciated and a comfort to me to know that you truly appear to care about your officers and staff, and will back us up and protect us.

Now...on to the matter at hand. I hope a city commissioner, mayor, city manager, or anyone else involved from the city side in the extremely heavy handed discipline and attempted firing of our officers read this. SHAME ON YOU! So an officer voided a ticket as a personal favor to someone he knew. This is wrong, yes. This should be punished, sure. But to demand that the officer is fired? Not even close. One of these officers passed up better career opportunities with a much better department. He turned it down out of loyalty to his city.

When you are in a leadership position of anyone, in any field, the most important thing is to show loyalty and defend the people under your responsibility. This means that when they make a mistake you should deal out fair and proper discipline. You do not hang them out to dry and forget about all the years of loyalty, hard work, and accomplishments they have accomplished. I was extremely disturbed to hear that you wanted one of the two officers involved in voiding a ticket FIRED for something that should have been handled quickly and fairly.

The two officers are both relatively senior officers and high examples of what an officer should be like in their respective fields, K9 and Traffic. Did they make a mistake? Yes. Should they be punished? Yes. Fired? Absolutely not. What the heck are you thinking up there? Do you really despise your law enforcement community and city employees so much that you would turn your back on them so quickly and with such conviction? You should know that what happens to one employee will effect all of us. I have to wonder if you would turn on me so quickly and vehemently if I make an honest mistake? What if I have a use of force and some yokel hiding in the bushes turns his camera on AFTER the suspect hits me, has a weapon, or refuses to stop fighting. The camera will only show me throwing him to the ground and physically arresting him...would I be fired if the liberal media portrays me as the bad guy? How about a, "Fry lady" incident like in Clearwater, am I fired then too?

The officers in your department work hard each and every single day. Read the daily emails on what kind of crap we deal with. People fighting, people on drugs, people with contagious diseases, dangerous traffic, guns, knives, and a quite literal risk that we can end up breathing out of a tube for the rest of our life, over someone or something we know very little about. The only thing that keeps moral up is the knowledge that I can trust the people around me and my superiors to understand and protect me from the elements that I have no defense: The bias media, uneducated citizens, and even the occasional problem with fellow officers.

The chief used to have a very well written policy on the City of Largo webpage, I was unable to find it or I would have posted it in a link. The city seriously needs to listen to the following statement that is based on what Lester Aradi wrote. If a person makes a mistake and is willing to learn from that mistake, and improve from it, they should be given a chance to do so. Nobody is perfect and everybody will mess up. It is inherant not just in life, but in the type of career we are involved in.

Protect your officers and employees and learn some loyalty, DO NOT HANG US OUT TO DRY. Without law enforcement your city will collapse, without quality police officers your, "City of Progress" will turn into one large ghetto. I hope that this is not all just a large wall of text and that you actually read it and understand that your actions equate to you acting and being a piece of crap for all I am concerned.

Write a citation for a violation and it should not be voided, period ! end of story. Don‘t write it in the first place, give a verbal or a written warning and that will be the end of that. Have you ever heard of common sense. Guess not. I thought all of you city boys and girls had four year degree‘s. Well that answers my question. NO COMMON SENSE. "City of Progress" will turn into one large ghetto. You mean Larghetto, Florida. Hey son, everybody already knows this and quite frankly no one cares. Keep on being a big kid driving a car or truck with lights and a siren, handing out citations from your pick um up truck with a tool box. Hell, somebody’s got to pay for some of the frivols crap the Mayor, City Manager or the commissioners vote on, especially the Commissioners. Grow up little City boy. Just do your job and quit worrying about others. Remember the only Loyalty found in this world will be from your pet DOG.

I'm not sure who you are, but you sound like a fool. Good folks got caught up in a bad situation and they had the balls to stand up. Perhaps you cold learn from them. AS A LARGO COP i AM PROUD OF HOW THIS WAS HANDLED.

You can always tell when a deputy replies by the extreme arrogance in their post. Get a life deputy and go back to your own board.

Good ole Henry and Susie from city hall squeaked loud enough and got Chief Aradi suspended for 3 days. Officers of the department should be proud of Aradi for standing up for his employees. Way to go city hall. NOT.

The Largo Police Department is a good department with excellent supervisors and good co-workers.

The City of Largo itself is, has been, and will continue to be a joke.

Proof of some sort, otherwise I think your talking out your butt with no facts to support it.

We support you Chief Aradi and are very proud of your professionalism and loyalty to your officers. Thank you!

I am a retired officer from another state who just became aware of this action of the chief through a newspaper article today.

You chief should be praised and not suspended for doing what is right. A citation Nolle Prosse is not a huge offense. The discipline he handed to the officers was fair and correct. The discipline he was given was an action done purely for spite by the idiot city manager and was excessive.

Keep up the good work chief. Always remember we don't need someone to have our back when we are right, but we do need someone when we are wrong.

I have not been on this site in a while as I do not like the gossip of some of the posters.

I want to start by saying Thank You Chief Aradi for your dedication and how you stand up for us Officers. I like coming to work at a place that I am fully protected from the Chief on down to and including my fellow Officers. We work within a society that seems to believe that we are not able to make a mistakes. Was this a mistake in judgement absolutly. Was it fireable ABSOLUTLY NOT. Both Officers dedicate a large amount of their on and off time to this Police department and that should say something about them as people. Chief I as well as my fellow Officers want to say thank you for standing up for them and not listening to City Hall who was trying to make an example out of them.

We all support and thank you Chief Aradi.

I read the 5 news articles on this matter as well as the citizen comments. It appears that 90% of the citizens agree that the chief was correct and this, "City Manager" was excessive, spiteful, and micromanaging.

Do not let this get you down Chief, your officers, citizens, and neighboring leo's support you and your decisions. Wish WE had a chief that would stand up for us.

Great job Lester! Support your officers lying, covering up, and falsifying documents. What a top notch chief running a top notch department! And what a smart officer AC to make those statements while being recorded, then lying about it in a memo. Genius! Keep up the good work LPD. You keep earning your reputation.

Throwing stones in a glass house again? I'm sorry are you an ex employee with a grudge? A fellow leo that dislikes another agency without a real reason? Or a criminal recently arrested for child pornography? Actually my bet is on option 1, ex employee with a grudge.

This state is so f##ked up. I would be doing life in prison for citations I took care of in Boston. Cops locking up cops. Cops writing up other cops. Its mind boggling.

No, it's not the state that's screwed up, just Largo. I can't wait until the Sheriff's Office takes that sorry excuse for a police department over.

Largo's internal investigation revealed a dizzying web of friends doing favors for friends of friends. really? no kidding? LOL

This is your 3rd post on this Forum thread so far...isn't it time to go back to your own board? I mean we get it, you do not like Largo. Move on Mr ex employee.

PCSO is not in a position to take anything over. That means politically and financially. Go back to your elitism board, deputy. I believe you have enough drama going on over there as it is.

Blah, Blah.....I support the Chief with his decision and AC you are very lucky...Glad to still have you around. Someone in an earlier post suggest that AC and JS are senior officers>>>hardly> JS is a piece of crap who didn't man up and left AC hanging out to dry. Nice brotherhood JS, the guy does a favor for your lard azz girlfriend and you don't have the nuts to fess up!! You should have your dog taken away and banished to day shift. No one wants you here anymore because you keep proving that you can't be trusted and will turn on your partners back in a second. If I see you in the hallway you better have your head hung low or you will hear about it!
