Eighty-eight people, including 50 who were wanted on felony charges, were arrested in Orange County in a violent crime crackdown conducted in a joint operation by the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Orlando Police Chief Val Demings and her husband, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, said officers and deputies were searching for people with outstanding warrants -- including manslaughter, rape and robbery -- during the nine-hour sweep, which ended at 3 a.m. Friday.

"We target repeat offenders and those who we know are dangerous individuals," Jerry Demings said.

"We're going to make a whole lot of folks' lives miserable who commit crimes in Orlando and Orange County," Val Demings said.

Local 6 News was the only media outlet invited to join the sting operation, and showed authorities chasing a man who tried to escape at a trailer park. A woman wanted out of St. Lucie County was arrested, as was a man wanted on a manslaughter warrant.

"The streets do not belong to the thugs and criminals, but they belong to us and to the citizens -- the hard working citizens of Orange County," a law enforcement officer said.

The sheriff's office and police department have worked together before, but never on this level, Val Demings said.
