Officers,

A word to the wise:

If your Chief of Police hires retired officers on a contract basis, these are usually well liked or at least liked retirees so this post is not a reflection on their abilities.

HOWEVER, hiring persons on a contract basis SHOULD be against your union contract. Are they not taking a job from a PBA protected sworn officer? Your union SHOULD be addressing this fact. If your union representatives are not addressing this issue and you care about the promotional process and protection of sworn officers, bring it up and demand that they address this because:

1. Contract employees avoid the COC and report directly to the Chief of Police.
2. Promotional processes are thwarted and the Chief of Police can avoid union rules and
place people at will.
3. This process gives your Chief more control, your city manager more control, your commissioners more control and you, the officer, less control and fewer opportunities.

Keep up the Good Work and Stay Safe.
