A deputy sheriff responding to a call Sunday slammed into three vehicles stopped at a traffic light in east Orange County, reports show.
Rescue crews took seven people, including a child, to hospitals with minor injuries.
Deputy John Questel, 30, who has been with the Orange County Sheriff's Office since January 2008, had minor injuries and was taken to Florida Hospital East.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the crash said Questel is responsible for the multiple-vehicle collision that caused extensive damage.
"Charges are pending against Questel," FHP Sgt. Kim Miller said.
Questel patrols Sector 2, which includes all of east Orange County, past Semoran Boulevard.
His driving record as a deputy was unavailable Monday.
Reports show Questel had received a call about a disturbance sometime before 7:07 p.m. and was traveling westbound on State Road 50.
Three vehicles traveling ahead of the deputy had stopped for a red light at Bonneville Drive.
Questel failed to stop as he neared the intersection and crashed into the rear of the last vehicle in line, the reports said.
The impact caused a chain reaction, propelling the last car into the rear of the middle car, which then struck the first vehicle.
Reports show two vehicles had extensive damage.
Most of the people were taken to Florida Hospital East; the child was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.
The age and gender of the child was not released by troopers or deputies.
