Did you know that WHCA had an association? It is made up of active and retired WHCA people and also non-WHCA people who worked alongside of them can be associate members. Take a look at their web site.

To be an associate member you have to have working in support of them. I don't think that would include secret service people because they didn't support the communications people. But if you wanted to get in touch with some old friend from WHCA you might be able to contact the association and ask for help in finding them.

You might be interested to know that the 1600 Communications Association is working to update and republish former WHCA Commander Colonel McNally’s book, A Million Miles of Presidents. The effort includes republishing Colonel McNally’s original work in its entirety with the addition of inputs from as many of the other former WHCA Commanders as we can obtain. The original book covers the period from Truman to Johnson.

Amazon has the book listed as not in print. Anybody know where a copy can be found?

Actual USSS people know what 5 and 9 on Charlie means so we need not discuss that here.

The question is does anyone know the origin of the term beyond the fact that it was introduced by WHCA? Speculation is that it might have previously had some application in military communications but so far I haven't found anyone who knows for sure.

If you know the origin this is something that the Historian would like to include in the archives.

Any information?
