Why are Tampa LEO's so disgruntled? Just go out an do your job, it's not that hard, and is actually fun!

I'm an officer in the tampa area and I totally agree that they b*tch more than anythone in the agency. There seems to be a beef between Pinellas and Hillsborough officers. A few Pinellas officers believe that water is god and there is no use to help out in other places. There is land in North Pinellas that is never touched by a Pinellas officer and would rather dodge a call or pass it off too Hillsborough or Pasco officers. Thank god that one of the Pinellas officers, who always dodged calls, recently quit. But there are still a couple who don't give a damn about there fellow officers in the surrounding counties. I remember a call one very recently when there was an injured deer that needed to be put down near the Pinellas-Hillsborough border. The Hillsborough officers were too far away and the closet one was a "North Pinellas" officer who decided to play Lt. and advise dispatch to send a south Pasco unit. Don't get me wrong there are a couple Pinellas officers who are always willing to help out and go anywhere for their fellow officer.

Remember everyone...we are State Officers and we work for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. We have State jurisdiction and a county line is only an imaginary line that exists that are vehicles or vessels can penetrate. That is the beauty of the job..we have so much LAND and water to patrol and we can go anywhere and have fun doing so many different areas of resource protection and any other state law the we come across. Quit the B*tching on this website and let's all focus on making this agency the best in Florida. Everyone always tells me that I'm the luckiest person for being an FWC Officer and most people would give their left n*t to get out of their crappy little office job and do what we do everyday. For the people who regularly bash other officers and find anything to b*tch at, then quit and do something else, and I bet you will regret leaving everyday for the rest of your life. Yeah everyone would love to make more money, but remember next time when you are working offduty making 45 dollars an hour and watching your dvd's, look at the construction workers who are out there busting their humps for 8 dollars and hour. I wouldn't be surprise if some of those people have more education and probably more problems in their life then you do. You make in one night by sitting in your truck then most people make in a week. And we get health insurance and a pension. Yeah and we have problems. One of those individuals are more likely to lose their life doing road construction then we are.

Be thankful for what you have. You all sound like a bunch of spoiled babies to the rest of the world.

And to the rest of the world it only takes a couple bad apples or FMP wannabees to ruin a whole bunch. Most of the officers in the agency are happy and realize this in the best job in Florida and things could be worse. Yeah internal issues could improve but no one is losing their jobs.

Don't confine this problem to the Tampa office. This morale problem is statewide. I used to work out of that office and it seems for the most part that everyone does what they are supposed to including working large details on the inland areas. You can give examples of how a "Pinellas" officer didn't do this and that, but I can give examples of how a "Hillsborough" officers doesn't handle derelict vessels, ship escorts, or work net details. As officers, we work what we are good at and have the most knowledge of. Some officers are good at things that others are not. Does this mean that an officer should immerse himself in portions of the job that he is rarely, if ever, going to encounter?

I am tired of the negativity. I think most of it stems from the continued lack of honesty that upper management has with the field. If they are not open to suggestions and promise to "look into" things that never get looked into, this agency will continue to be stagnant. It seems the status quo is to not ruffle any feathers in order to ride your salary into retirement (and possibly get re-hired as a "consultant").

I appreciate everyone that I work with, it doesn't matter which county that they patrol. It is regretful that barriers are continually put up between the field and headquarters due to dishonesty.

positions being filled are determined by importance. most likely if hired you will be headed south, but it's only till after your first year and you can ftransfer back to your home county. i am sure there will positions open then

FWC is currently having problems finding qualified people to hire on. Speak to your recruiter and tell him/her what counties you would be willing to work in. Do not, I repeat, do not take a position that forces you to relocate to somewhere you don't intend on staying at for more than a year. The agency has so many openings and alot of officers looking for a way out that you could probably insist on the county of your choice. Starting pay is close to many other agencies right now and we're hiring. They're not!
