View Full Version : Raises

In this time where the city is losing property values and a national recession may be upon us, I can why understand the council did not want to give us a 3% COLA until April. The Cape and County are not getting raises, and I can understand that everyone needs to make sacrifices until the economy improves. We must be fortunate to actually have a job, because many families are going without income in this difficult time. However, the city manager just received a 5% raise from the cash strapped city in addition to his fringe benefits that make members of congress jeaolous. The chief had to trim our budget, and I feel that he did a great job in doing so, but we lost money that could provide us with safer equipment and more backup. I just don't think it is too much for the city managerto send that money back into the general fund based on principle, because the difference of working 10 months a year at 162,000 isn't much of a difference over his new 170,000. When everyone else is suffering in the city (the unemployment may be over 10% by the end of the year) it is not fair for this 5% raise to occur. I think a true leader would reject this raise, intead of lining his pockets in a time of recession.
