A woman who formerly worked in law enforcement tackled a suspected bank robber in Valrico this morning as he was fleeing with cash, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

An armed man had entered the Valrico State Bank, 15256 Fishhawk Blvd. in Lithia, and demanded money from the teller about 9:10 a.m. today, deputies said.

After he got the cash, the man fled to the parking lot, and a bank employee and the former law enforcement officer followed him, deputies said. The former officer tackled the man and restrained him until deputies arrived, deputies said.

The sheriff's office isn't releasing the woman's name because she was formerly in law enforcement, sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

Detectives are interviewing the suspect and believe he was involved in other bank robberies, Carter said. Deputies haven't released his name, either.
