Would hard economic times fast track the merger of FWC and DEP and some Ag positions? What do the bean counters have to say??

think about what you just said, first off, ask a bean counter. Secound, if they merged all of these agencys it would realy brake the bank. by the time you mark all the units and put everyone in the monkey siut and change headquarters and letter head, it would be a seven digit number. and after that happens, then we can all sit back and watch the power struggle start. Come to think of it, all of that would make perfect sence for the state of florida. guess it is going to happen

Why would you take just some of Ag positions? If we take em, we gonna take em all. Think they have about 300 positions.

Its not just a merger, its a hostile takeover.

You forget that FWC is a constitutional agency. Any proposed change, like a merger, must be placed on a ballot for a vote and pass by 60%. That's a pretty tough nut to crack. Since the Constitution states "The commission shall not be a unit of any other state agency," it's more likely that FWC would absorb another agency. All the other state law enforcement agencies can be merged/altered/disolved at the stroke of a legislator's pen.

I wouldn't get so hung up on the constitutional agency farse. The division of LE could be downsized to a small group of managers that assist the rule making body and other agencies, like DEP, could be tasked with enforcement. Speaking of hostile takeovers. Look what has happened with the GFC and FMP. The merger was a good idea although the complete identity of the FMP has been banished and we are now wearing cowboy hats.

FWC and DEP should be one agency - What's the difference really??
DOT and FHP should be one agency - They both work traffic put em together.

Ag could go with FWC/DEP as well or with FHP/DOT due to highway inspection stations. Capitol police should be merged with FHP/DOT as well. Most State patrols/highway patrols take care of captiol as well in other states.

The only constitutional entity is "The Commission" they are allowed to have a law enforcement component which can be manipulated by the legislature. They could tell the Division that you now consist on one officer and place the positions where ever they care to.
