I'm a current Federal LEO and planning on applying to Miami Dade PD. Is it possible to "buy back" my 4 years of federal time in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). Any idea on the cost? [I'm assuming that means that I can retire after 21 years instead of the mandated 25 - just checking]

Thanks!

You are going to have to get a hold of FRS. To the best of my knowledge you can only buy back military time that was combat. As far as the buy back time price you are looking at 10k to 20k possibly

Your military time doesnt need to be "combat" in order to buy it back from FRS. To the original poster, yes, you can buy back your time being an out of state or federal police officer. I would go to the FRS website, theres a lot of information on there and the info on the site would be more current.

Thanks for the post. I got the exact web link from another forum and found the actual PDF file that you need to fill out in order to receive credit. If anyone is interested, you can claim up to 5 years of out-of-state or federal time in public service (to include military).

here is the link:

form #62 found in the forms section under Creditable Service Forms
