View Full Version : NBC-2 CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRES

I was just on NBC 2’s website (http://www.NBC-2.com) and read an article about early voting and noticed a link titled “view the candidate questionnaires”. Everyone should take the time to go to this website and carefully read the questions asked to each candidate running for sheriff and then the responses by each candidate. I read them all twice and the only one that rang true is the one by Ken DeVries. It seems that DeVries is the only candidate who wants to make our community safe by making sure that there are adequate personnel on the road and in dispatch and will admit if there is a problem and will take actions to resolve the problem. It was interesting reading each candidate’s responses and I’m sure they will be of interest to all of you also.

Traffic crashes are the number one threat to the public safety of Charlotte County (that was the response by one candidate). You’ve go to be joking. We all know there are far worse threats to the public safety than crashes and there are far worse crimes occurring in our county. Maybe the reason crashes are down is because all of the snowbirds have gone back home and let’s face it, the $4.00 a gallon for gas probably has a lot of people driving less. Would fewer vehicles on the roads possibly lead to fewer crashes?

After reading all the responses one candidate does stand out. His assessment of the other candidates seems to come off as no more than a personal attack on all of them. Isn’t everyone tired of all the negativity? How about putting forth something positive for a change? We all know politics is a dirty business but come on. It seems that the only candidate who is looking towards the positive for everyone involved (citizens and employees alike) is DeVries. Again, I hope everyone can take a few minutes and read the questionnaires on NBC-2’s website.

The links below should take you to the questionnaires. Or you can go to http://www.nbc-2.com, click on newslinks and then candidate questionnaires.

How can BC state that traffic crashes are the number problem facing the citizens of Charlotte County. I would bet that drugs would be higher priority on the minds of most voters. Crimes from drugs such as robbery, theft included scrappers and burglary are mostly driven by the need for a drug fix. I like the guy but lets get on topic.

Maybe I am naive but does anyone really think the Sheriff can control the crime problem in Charlotte County?

I think taking a look at the court system is a better idea. Instead of serving time for crimes like burglary, theft, etc., these criminals are getting probation time and time again. There is no real penalty for crimes. Look at the arrest record for these losers. How many times does someone have to get arrested before they actually serve some real time?

And as far as the scrappers go....Go to the source. More pressure needs to be put on the metal recyclers. If they stop taking the scrap (which they know is stolen) then it would at least slow down the thefts. Make these scrappers accountable, ask them where they are getting the stuff, have them produce documentation on where it is coming from.

On any day you can go to the recycle plants and watch the constant stream of cars, trucks, shopping carts and people entering those places with loads and loads of scrap.

Hopefully come October with the new laws taking affect it will stem the tide alittle bit.

But anyone who thinks (including the candidates) that any one man is going to put a stop to the thefts occuring is out of their minds.

Me personally I will vote for the candidate who is going to back the LEO's and not back down to the county and the public. I want a Sheriff who is going to put my safety above all else. We are here to serve and protect, not coddle and succumb.

Well, if you want a sheriff who won't let you use a spotlight at night on a traffic stop because it's "offensive" to the driver you're pulling over, or who won't let you write any tickets on U.S. 41 because it looks bad to the public, or who makes you pay for your health insurance, or who embarrasses the agency with his inability to get along with other elected officials, then Worch is your guy. I was here when he was sheriff and I can tell you it was no fun. God help us if he wins.

All the more reason we need to request that the candidates meet at the FOP lodge and explain to use their plans for the agency over the coming years.

I am sure the candidates read this site and I suggest to each of them that they step up and pick a date to meet with us.

I am sure each and every LEO is advising their family members and friends who they should vote for.

Those candidates who are willing to meet with us would be beneficial to all. Those candidates who are not willing to meet with us would be a tell tale sign.

Amen Brother, but they don't have the guts! They want to talk to people that have no clue on how to fight crime and what it takes to fight the same crimes.
