Cape Police Chief wants to fill 10 empty spots

Cape Coral police chief Robert Petrovich doesn't just have to keep city streets safe he also has to make sure enough officers are on the payroll.
The budge crunch has already reduced his total number of sworn officers.

"We've already, by reducing our staff from 281 to 256 I r really feel that is tightening the belt and i don't want to get below that number," he says.

The number of total officers is getting smaller with some of his men taking early retirement.
Petrovich is now hoping to fill ten of the empty spots.

"The way its gotten out there is that we are adding 10 positions. We aren't adding we are trying to fill ten existing positions," he says.

Councilman Tim day doesn't want to see the number drop any lower.

"If we don't do something to fill these we could go as low as 230 or 235 and that's not adequate," he says.

Petrovich will go before council Monday for approval to fill the vacancies.
He says he needs the right amount of officers to not only solve crimes but prevent them.

"So going below those numbers will not only affect the officers ability to be proactive but it could affect response times, potentially," he says.

Getting rid of murphy will afford to pay for the 10 spots. He just entered the DROP program after 32 + years, give me a break. When is someone going to stand up to this disgrace and say take a hike to this embarrassment. Nobody has a pair big enough. What a disgrace. When its all said and done this embarrassment will have 37 years.

How much is it costing us to stay accredidated? How many jobs could that save if we stopped paying for? How much are we gonna spend on golf shirts, fishing shirts, jackets, mugs, and other designer items to give to this assessment team? Let's save that money and make them pay their own expenses This savings should allow us to at least hire another officer.

Julio was useless on the road. When they are done with him he will get spit out like a piece of gum on the floor. Julio can smoke all those cigarettes on the 3rd floor balcony with the big dogs, but he knows he is useless.

He should add Police Chief to one of those empty positions he wants to fill...

unless someone is calling the FBI with cold hard facts, they don't care. They handle Police corruption. Someone needs to make it happen. If you care....and there is merit to all this banter.
