Some of you folks need to insure that management or the Mayors Office promptly files for the Public Safety Officers Benefit from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. It takes time and the application needs a lot of information. Someone should be there to assist the family in completing their part and champion the complete application. The family will need the money and should not be placed in a position to seem like they are going after it. Usually the Chief drives this to completion, but I assume that probably won't happen.

With all the $ spent on illegals, at least we have this program which currently provides $303,064.00 to the family. Think what you would want your brothers to do for your family if you were gone, and make sure it is done in this case.
Most of us in law enforcement, by necessity, learn to put a lot of sadness in the back of our mind, natures way of allowing us to cope with all we have to deal with. Don't let this happen in regards to the family. Yes, there is nothing so can say and it's difficult, but just being there is all that's necessary.
Think smart and stay tight.
