I was wondering. I just got here and heard this was the best department in Florida. A friend of mine told me that guys our retiring from NY just to work at this department. What makes it so special?

Freeze

Apparently the "Strict hiring freeze, including teachers" is about as hard and fast as Jell-o:

Introductory/Administrative*
Edwards, Eddie 07/28/2008 PeopleSoft Lead Developer Office Depot
Spec Application Systems Applications

Last time I heard, Office Depot is not part of the School System. What a bunch of liars, telling the newspapers that there is a strict hiring freeze. We just can't hire anyone to teach our kids or protect them.

Good call, wish the paper was not in their back pocket. All they have to do is look at the agenda meetings posted online to see they actually ARE hiring

Big freaking deal they are hiring, where's our money?

I'm not being a wise-butt, so please don't take that way. The District has been saying that there is no money for raises for anyone, and that they've instituted a hiring freeze that includes teachers. Yet, they seem to find money for AJ's wanna-hires. We lose police positions and have the promise of no pay increase, while AJ adds positions. I'm sure that this new hire will make more than the guy at the Drive-Thru @ Wendys.

When they lift the freeze for teachers, does the freeze for PD lift at the same time?

The PD will be hiring, just keep in contact with HR, they will and know more then we do. Our PD is down about 20 guys, there is no way, we can function with such few Officers, so hang in there, get your paperwork in, and play the waiting game

A good friend of mine told me that today her principal is interviewing new teachers so I assume the hiring freeze has been lifted for teachers. Does anyone know for sure if the PD goes by the same freeze?

As of 1500 today, the freeze is still on.
