We had some great training and everyone did a good job, just trying to say something positive. I don't expect someone who is out of shape and can't cut it to understand.

From us that are out of shape and couldn't cut it but did their job and yours last week, I just want to think you all for leaving us short handed once again...

Thank you for "think"ing of me. I missed you too, cupcake. Maybe after you go to Report Writing class you can write an eloquent resignation letter and leave us short-handed. That would really show us, wouldn't it?

Great job training staff and to all those who praticipated.

And don't forget, thanks for wasteing all that money. We need SOG about as much as we need cowboy hats. But at least the hats will keep the sun off you..

"Loser's always whine about there best, winners go home and bang the prom queen".

There are some fine officers on the SOG team, I'll give you that. There are also some that should never have got on the teams. Some that can't iron a uniform, some that can't drive a boat, some that can't swim, some that won't take their crew out in public. I know the new guys that just got on SOG think they are somewhat akin to Navy Seals. You're not! Green BDUs and an oudated weapon do not make a warrior. There was a USN Seal Team member on SOG once. He quit because the the Lt. and Capt. that had NO military training kept overruling his ideas and experience. Something he earned in 20 years with the Seals.

SOG team you have to be kidding me? Quick call out the SOG team we have a guy over his bag limit. I mean really what is your all's mission scope?

If it's Palm Beach County, it's Tiger Hunting. Right?

SOG is a good idea gone bad. Why has it gone bad? Simple....
It went from a team of special deployment to.....a team of call them out for any silly reason to justify themselves. SOG was doing very well when we had the hurricanes and other justifiable responces. But when we went several months without a reason for deployment, they felt like they had to "think" up some reason to deploy. BAD BAD idea. Guess what the N.W. Panama City SOG team is working on......Sitting in the bushes along the Apalachicola river watching for people shocking catfish. Now is this a sog mission? Is this what FWC sog is all about? Decisions like this one is why our own officers look at sog the way they do.
Great idea gone bad.

Once a poacher always a poacher. That tiger never changed his stripes.

The mission is clear in the SOG SOP and GO's.

Wow, quick and to the point. I envy your ability to get straight to the heart of the matter. Oh wait, if you could do that you would have just stated the SOG mission. Hoorah...?

07-02-2008, 08:41 PM
You must have tried out and couldn't pass the test! Maybe next year.

07-02-2008, 08:57 PM

Yeah, you're right. You though are incredible. I want to be you.

07-02-2008, 11:37 PM
First, make one of the teams then you can try!

Great idea gone bad.If this is true, SOG is going down hill fast. Who decides what they do and dont do?

07-03-2008, 03:54 AM
The Grouper Troopers have a wanna be SWAT team?

07-03-2008, 12:52 PM
First, make one of the teams then you can try!

Please DON'T call the SOG program the "Teams". Regardless of what you have been told in your two years on the job that designation is reserved for the SEALs.

07-03-2008, 03:26 PM
Gimme a break, is that incorporated.

07-03-2008, 03:44 PM
its funny that you think the old grouper troopers came up with the swat teams concept. I believe it was you pine pigs that started the idea. atleast it was your coln. oh wait, true to fashon the gfc never did anything on there own,my bad. they were told to by the goveners office

The term "Team" is not reserved for seals, but I agree calling the SOG a team is kind of a joke..

07-03-2008, 07:12 PM
Get over it (old GFC & FMP) and go whine about something else! It's only been nine years now. And, people wonder why there is no progress when there are still people thinking like there is still a GFC or FMP.

Yeah, you're right. You though are incredible. I want to be you.

I would like to be you to, the only problem is I'm not that full of myself!

Just as the Army stated tonight on CNN, only 3 out of 10 potential recruits are unqualified: Due to a police record, did not graduate high school or cannot pass a physical agility test.

Look at many FWC Officers in uniform. Nothing else to say.

07-04-2008, 12:37 AM
correction: 3 out of 10 are only qualified

07-04-2008, 02:42 AM
I would like to apologize for my fellow Trooper's post. FWC requires a PT test before selection. We at FHP on the other hand pretty much take anyone that applies. I'm not trying to say that you Fish-Eatin' - Deer Dancin' Red necks have it down pat but I do believe that it's pretty hard for someone that's obviously eating grease for a living to be justified in ridiculing you guys.

Stay safe. We're in it together. Florida SUCKS! At least the pay is good. :(

This is why this agency will never move forward. There are a bunch of idiots (who by the way can't spell or use grammer correctly), that are so busy complaining and talking crap about each other, rather than doing their job. The SOG team has done dignatary protection (important people) for the idiots, escorted and protected millitary ships, responded to officers who were down and killed, and are constantly training for the day that crap hits the fan. Just like the millitary which I served in, some soldiers are cooks, and some are trained to kill. Figure out which one you are and deal with it. Stop the complaining and realize we are a diverse agency.

07-10-2008, 05:56 AM
What dignitaries do you guys protect? It would seem that they would have there own protection detail. Or were you guys just there to bolster security like the local PD's and SO's do all the time..

07-10-2008, 06:07 AM
FWC uniformed and plain clothes and Secret Service plain clothes were the only two agencies on the detail.

07-10-2008, 06:09 AM
By the way they were the President & Vice President of a certain country

07-10-2008, 10:01 AM
Do you think any other agencies special operations groups would have to defend themselves? Probally not. The question is....why does FWC S.O.G. have comments like these on this site? The answer is simple. The diffrence is also simple. FWC has omce agian changed the SOG program and they have allowed each area throughout the state to decide what they will deploy to. This has opened the door to ridicule. If you called a police or sheriff dept. swat team and asked what they respond to, the answer would be the same statewide. Do you think ANY of them would say they were going to the Apalachicola river to hide in the bushes and watch for catfish shockers?
The diffrence with FWC s.o.g. and Police swat is as diffrent as FWC officers and Police officers. Too may regional commanders deciding what SOG really is there for. These questions did not rise when we had plenty of hurricanes to go to.

07-10-2008, 07:19 PM
Not every SO or PD Swat team respond tot he same things. Each agency has there own needs. So agencies have them do high risk warrants others have a squad for just that. I don't think that is why the SOG gets flack because they do different things in different parts of the state. Talking with some of the FWC guys it would seem that they get crap because they act like they are better than everyone else once they make the team and it would seem not al of them are qualified to be there.

07-10-2008, 08:34 PM
Good point....I wouldnt think it took someone "special" to hide in the bushes. As a matter of fact, EVERY deployment sog has gone to, Regular joe officer has been there too.

Not only that but, Non-Sog personnel have been the drivers of all of the Sog units at OAS and FTAA. The reason oficers give sog a hard time is that not all of its members can or should be considered elite. They got on to fill spots. Also, if you were not on the first units trained you have not gotten the same amount of training. None of the sog units have gotten enough ongoing training. Another point is that those training and in charge refused to listen to sog members that have actual combat training and experience.

07-11-2008, 03:04 AM
We just did the training. idiot!

07-11-2008, 11:25 AM
We just did the training. idiot! So you are a new guy? Go figure.

07-11-2008, 02:51 PM
i agree if you were not one of the first, then the training is sub standard, thats tallahasseee fault. i have been on sog since the begining and for the most part everyone is right. there is no direction. sog has turned out to be the first call out list of people to get called for everything but what what they are trained for, notice i did not say what they are intended for, because i dont think anyone knows, its like the head shed has a pit bull that they are scared to let out and play. as for as the speacial overtime group comments, the everyday patrol officer gets the same if not more. we are the first into hurricanes and a week later were are being sent home because they dont want to burn us out,but when the other officers arrive they are there for two weeks and are given the option to stay if they want, you do the math. look sog is here to stay, the state has reqiured it,where it goes no onr knows.

Good post. Like everything started by this agency since the merger it seems like great ideas tend to lose steam once in place. Call it a lack of forethought or a lack of infrastructure. SOG has its place and it darn sure not on the side of a river watching for monkey fishermen. What would be very cool is to have a SOG unit in a helicopter that is looking for firehunters. Instead of vectoring the land units just drop off the SOG unit right on them. Now that would be a sight!

Remember, SOG are not SWAT teams - they are considered a tier 2 team. SWAT teams are tier 1.

07-12-2008, 06:24 AM
The above post has made the most sense yet. They do have some special skills and tools but they are not SWAT nor should they be considered Tier 1....

08-17-2008, 01:29 AM
If we were all required to prove our identity to this site, I promise you some of these things would not be posted. I would love to see SOG clearing FWC warrants. If we have a warrant for a U/S fish citation than our SOG team should do the collecting. Just my opinion. This would clear up the "what do we do without hurricanes?" issue.
