How in the world does our city council get the authority to - A) Vote to keep us self-insured, then B) have the ability to increase the employee resposibility all in the same series of votes. Does it not seem that they have too much control over this issue?????

They stated in their findings that remaining self-insured has a cost savings over private insurance yet they don't let employees have any say and decide if we want to pay a little more for a lot better coverage.... WTF??? "We think you should take this insurance and by the way you WILL pay more each time you go to the doctor."

Better stock up on the vitamins or take some extra part time to pay for doctor visits....and for those of us on the family plan, gulp, pray for us...

sentara has their hands in councils pockets to allow them to keep managing the health plan. problem for us is sentara is tidewater based so we need change if we want benefits when we leave the department. so pass the word to friends and family to vote out the existing members of council and especially the mayor. 800+ sworn department members, their friends and family should be able to make some difference in who manages this city.

On Tuesday 6/24 council did it. They voted to implement the changes to our already horrible benefits. Thanks council.... Oh by the way mayoral elections are coming up so here's an idea, get out and vote for someone other than Oberndwarf.....
