Well
what is this?

05-25-2008, 04:47 AM
A certain incompetent mayor is falling way behind in the race for the district 92 seat held by Jack Seiler. Word around town is that he is on his knee's begging for any type of support he can get from the PBA or any other group that will hear his retoric. Will they back a sinking ship called the SS Scott Newton.Time will tell.Wonder how the Taj Mahal project is coming along? Being built for 6 million. Somebody has some explaining to do to the taxpayers.

Yea this city hall and new police department is going to be built for 6 million like the city manager, mayor and city council promissed the voters who voted yes to the bond issue. Now due to a lack of direction from the city manager ,mayor and city council, the price tag is 8 million and climbing at a rapid pace. We had to unload the city parking lot across the street for pennies just to get some cash to proceed with the city hall/police department project. And the city manager, mayor and council tried to ramrod the project without any resident input. Benjamin Little was right on point. We all owe him ,Paul Kuta and Steve Kelley of the Island City News a lot for exposing a very corrupt city goverment who wish to govern and dicate without hearing from the wishes and wants from the people they represent.

If Scott Newton is on his knee's Joe Angelo cannot be far behind because right know they are joined at the joint. One cannot turn the corner at a WMBA or CENA Meeting without them crashing into each other. See if they can stand alone which is very, very doubtfull.

If the Mayor Scott Newton is on his knee's then Joe Angelo is holding the spit bucket. We all know about the GESTAPO tactics ordered by Newton, Angelo and Chief **** PEREZ last new years eve to shut down a fundraiser of a NEWTON oppenent. That is a sad statement of what the city goverment of wilton manors has resorted to in a weak effort to maintain power.

And the city manager - Joseph Gallegos, who sold all the general employees down the road for the cops contract, should be mopping the floor.

05-27-2008, 03:37 AM
Do you think Mayor Scott Newton( screw the cops) is BEGGING for the PBA endorsement. This city is so screwed up with this city hall bond project that will cost well over 10 million to complete. Elected officials are leaving a rapildy sinking ship hoping to salvage votes and a reputation while others will have to clean up the bond mess along with trying to figure out who will fund the 4 million dollars in unfunded pension liabilty that Brenda Clanton has led this pension board to accept. Will the city manager be the one to go?

05-27-2008, 04:01 AM
Hey people running for city office. Look into how the pension board is elected by the city council. And they manage millions of bucks.Look into the trips to the south pacific and around the united states by this pension board and members. I would think Mr and Mrs Wilton Manors TAXPAYER would be amazed how many thousands of taxpayer dollars are spents on these trips that are really social encounters. Why does the city budget review council not look into the expenditures of the pension board . Think the city manager, JOSEPH GALLEGOS says look the other way.It will amaze you who the city leaders pick to control this 20 million dollar fund and you have to question the qualifications of the chair. She has screwed the city employees who elected her for many years and she continues to do so.

Remember how Newton acted towards the Broward County PBA at the last candidates screening. Think back people.

06-01-2008, 06:49 AM
Yea I remember EC telling us how disrespectfull SCOTT NEWTON was to the PBA screening committee. Lets think back....................

Smart people are telling Newton to leave this race because Mark L is going to kick his butt. Nice national endorsement MARK.But Newtons ego is to big to accept the fact that he is a loser. Way out of his class or league.Remember all he is a carpet uposlterier who is a bullly.Scott Newton is nothing more that a pimp for Jack Seiler who is going to get whipped in his race for Ft Laud Mayor,

come on Mark...we know its you, or one of your cronnie,,,running scared are we??? What national endorsement is that???

06-08-2008, 04:33 AM
Remember how Newton disrespected every member of the PBA last election. Came in with the huge attitude during screening. Now he is BEGGING for any help that the PBA will give him. Seems he had lunch with Chief Perez and Pat Hanrahan and was last seen on his knees. What a piece of crap we have as mayor. Best news is he will be long gone after 8/26, flushed down the toilet like the piece of s... he is.

06-11-2008, 04:07 AM
Newton made a COMPLETE arse of himself at the AFL-CIO candidate screening. He was even caught in a bold faced lie that he could not get out of. Many professionals on the screening board walked away thinking what is this person who is a blatant liar without an education even considering running for a state legislative position. Think of it. He puts in car headliners or repairs sofas for a living. He has got the city in a deep mess over the city hall building issue to the tune of costing the city about 3 to 4 million dollars just to build a shell of a building. And then he disregarded citizen input into the buildings design. Not to think of many more problems that will come to the publics attention within the coming months. To say Scott Newton is not qualified to hold ANY OFFICE is an understatement. Jack Seiler cannot pull his Scott Newton puppet strings much longer and see the light that it will damage his Ft Lauderdale mayoral campaign. :!:

Newton is up to his old tricks again (or should I say still) Always trying to hurt others to get his way. Turns out he is trying to put out bad info about Mark L. Guess he can't win the regular way. EX:(Telling good things you have done) Oh that 's right he can't do that because he has messed up everything he has touched. (look at the new city hall........) Shame on you Scott. GROW UP you LOSER

As a politician ( and I use that term losely because Scott Newton is really an infant) Newton is nothing more than a bottom feeder looking for someone elses scrapes to fall his way to get ahead. He made a COMPLETE ARSE of himself at the AFL-CIO screening to the point where union leaders were wondering how did this half brain get elected in the first place as a mayor. Many residents of Wilton Manors are wondering the same. And you woner why Danielle took a job at the county commish.....

Newton will try to ride ride the PBA train to election but will lose to Mark L which will happen.or Gwen from Deerfield which is not likely. He is sucking the roids from the pba butts to gain support but his train is sinking into the water at a rapid pace. Things will be posted that will shock the districts voters. Things that he will not know from whence they came. But when you think what a pile of humane excrament scott newton is , things happen for a reason and the reason is that he has no effect on public office. He has destroyed the functional goverment in the city I work in , leads the city manager by the collar, and would be a disaster as a state legislator.

Some very prominent scott newton backers are leaving his campaign due to the latest polls.Looks like the only thing he will have to fall back on is his detailing business. With JA taken out of politics and mayor opie next, maybe we employees will have a chance to rebuild a city that they have destroyed. And lets see, the city managers evaluation is due I believe in October. Lets work on that one in the future. Should be some very good posts on what he and chief perez have done to the wmpd.

06-22-2008, 06:19 AM
Interesting how Dio Sanchez on the Scott Newton float to no-whereville had a certain body part attached to Scott as his pretend wife Cindy was throwing the candy out to the crowd. Scott you need to be " straight" up with the people as who you really are. Embrace defeat to Mark L and go back to doing headliners . You and your reputation are sinking down the gutter very fast. But that is where you came from so if the shoe fits it is very appropriate.

Seems the PBA screening is very close. Will our mayor, who has continually screwed us at the bargaining table, get the PBA endorsement. Time will tell. Rumor on the drive is that at the last union screening he went to, he was found out to be a liar and a cheat. What will this screening hold. Time will tell.

Too bad no one who actually looks at this thing actually votes! A bunch of miserable people! Actually, it is probably only 1 or 2 people including Mark Lafontaine himself. Is that why no one puts his last name because you all have no education on how to spell it. Real concerned citizens I can see! Haha...Mark has not a chance in the world. I cant wait till you all get embarassed and I sit back and laugh my A$$ off!!!

Actually I read these posts on a regular basis. And my friends vote. And to talk about education, Scott Newton may have a certificate to graduate from car headliner university with that and a nickel will get you a cup of coffee at 7/11. Mark has a degree and has goten the AFL-CIO endorsement with all the umbrella organization which go along with that. Can you believe that MAYOR SCOTT NEWTON LIED to the AFL-CIO Board about him getting the endorsement. He really showed his true spots which indicate he is a LIAR and cannot be trusted. And Mark has just gotten the BROWARD COUNTY FIRE RESCUE/FIREFIGHTERS ENDORSEMENT because they saw what t LIAR SCOTT NEWTON IS and what a major disgrace he would be in a STATE OFFICE.

WOW-The City of Wilton Manors General Obligation Bond Fund has a deficit of $392,648 and the Miscellaneous Grant Fund has a deficit of $707,107. Well over a MILLION DOLLARS. And with the City Hall/Police Complex SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS over budget, you really have to question where the current city manager, mayor and city commissioners have lead the taxpayers. And what about the cities PENSION BOARD LIABILITIES being under funded by about FOUR MILLION DOLLARS. Down a path of heavy debt with a very uncertain future to remain a viable city that can offfer quality of life services to the citizens. And who led the charge down this path, MAYOR SCOTT NEWTON and CITY MANAGER JOSEPH GALLEGOS. Both need to be given the boot if the city wants to survive. People need to vote for change within the city goverment. Can you imagine what a DISASTER SCOTT NEWTON would be as a STATE REPRESENTATIVE. He cannot manage a city budget, what would he do if he had to vote on a state budget. EXTREME DISASTER! Vote for change to better the city and state.

Wow-You have to be kidding. To assume this much debt is almost criminal. Is there no state of florida oversight when a city is so much in debt that it could threaten the basic delivery of services? What have they been doing with my families tax money?

07-04-2008, 05:39 AM
Both the mayor and city manager need to be asked how this city budget skyrocketed out of control in these bleak economic times. Me and my neighbors have a hard time keeping up with basic bills and payments and the cops have gotten huge increases in cost of living and pension payments. Thank you Island City News ( Steve Kelly)for informing us of the truth. Sad when you cannot even get a call back from the city manager or his secretary or assistant on what the fire assesment rollback is. The city manger lies are consistent with the wishes of the city goverment. Keep the truth away from of the people to protect your own interests. Guess who gets F*****. The people.

Steve thank you for telling us the truth about JOE ANGELO and how corrupt he is. If you read the posts SCOTT NEWTON is in the same boat. A person who you cannot trust and who cannot govern without threating a city manager and employees to do his dirty work. Perhaps Steve Kelly of the Island City News should be on a City Board.

07-11-2008, 12:44 PM
THe Newton-Perez Death Squad is now going after city employees that don't play into the games. Word has it that DOJ might just be getting ready to look into the elected officials and senior leaders in the city.

Seems mayor scotty newton has been lying about getting endorsements and will be spanked by the Election Commission about FRAUD. Vote Mark LaFountaine to get true representation in the pompano, deerfield beach area. But when you think about scott newton, would you expect anything less that a cheat from this certified LIAR.

If you analyze Newton's contributions it is all soft money meaning it is all from developers who do not vote. Mark's money ( which he has more of than the red head or dead head) is coming from VOTERS, not special interest groups which only contribute for a specific reason. That does not bode well for Scott Newton come election day.

I dunno.I attended a debate between the District Candidates for # 92 in Pompano. Mark was much more articulate, spoke like he knew the issues, had a sincere interest in helping the north corridor of the district, not just wilton manors as john seiler has done. All Newton did was refer to wilton manors which really pi#### off the people who lived in the north part of the county. It is not a WILTON MANORS SEAT, as Newton refers to it. It's base is much more broader than people think. Mark mentioned the whole district unlike Newton who kept coming back to the Manors. His showing was very, very weak. If he is so preoccupied with wilton manors, perhaps he should stay commissioner and worry about what is happening in gayville and let somebody else who cares about the WHOLE DISTRICT attend to the needs of the community. Just a thought of a retired politician from New York State. And forget Gwen. She is lost in space.

Guess you dont know Mark is Gay, and wants to be the first openly gay St REP. ...he never mentions it unless he is in a gay crowd. Otherwise hes just a single guy. Read his web page, look at the pictures..its us for us, this is our time.Who do you think he's referring to??? Sorry, we dont need a St Rep who has no experience, is a criminal, a deadbeat and just wants to be the first gay rep. NO THANKS....

Typical Newton Bull S### ! Throw crap on the wall and see what sticks. Does the same thing at council, homeowners and business assoc meetings. Sign of a very desperate man and candidate whose campaign is going south fast. Going negative has been his tactic since the beginning which has backed fired in his face.

I don't think Mark has been hiding anything. Just ask him he will tell you anything you want to know. This is all Newton trying to make things look bad because he is afraid Mark is going to win. Thats how he plays the game. So you know he is dirty and under handed before you even vote.
Is that the kind of person you want. Newton has lied to the citizens of Wilton Manors for a long time. BEWARE

Typical Newton Bull S### ! Throw crap on the wall and see what sticks. Does the same thing at council, homeowners and business assoc meetings. Sign of a very desperate man and candidate whose campaign is going south fast. Going negative has been his tactic since the beginning which has backed fired in his face.

as a citizen it important to know the truth about a candidates past. If Mark knew anything about being a public servant he would know that you cant hide from it.....truth is truth. sorry mark cant find from facts.

BEWARE[/quote:2yljmk4m]

Mark isnt hiding anything...really, thats very interesting, I hear there is some info. out there regarding a certain event that took place in 1986 and that ended in 1991. I havent heard anything about is past that isnt public record. Check it out... it is what it is, the truth!! Not gossip like most of the stuff on this blog.

What people need to investigate is the Newton Family and the demise of the jenada pool. Who made mucho money when the property was sold . Survey says SCOTT NEWTON. The district attorney should have a field day with that land transfer. But think about the sale of the NEWTON FAMILY PROPERTY at 1100 W. Oakland Park Blvd. And who was on the city council that voted not to secure the gate on the west end of the property that all the business owners wanted to secure to negate ongoing traffic problems. It is our own insecure MAYOR SCOTT NEWTON. The one who loves to bully about gay people with threats and code enforcement action.[/quote:2pktn0qx]

People need to pay attention to his campaign contributions. Voters need to decide do they want a state rep whose decisions while on city council have destroyed the makeup of neighborhoods by okaying " reserve units", or a state rep like Mark L who believes in smart growth. A very simple decision if you ask me. Or lets put it another way, you can vote for a person with their hands in a developers pockets or a person who will protect the pockets of the taxpayer. Again very simple.

Anyone can see that Mark, or Michael A, or one of his other boys is trying to take away from Marks criminal past and financial failings by making up lies about Newton. Sorry....Marks past is all on paper for all to see and can be found on the Broward County public records search..Its not gossip, speculation or opinion its fact. I for one dont want a St. Rep. who cant even manage his own finances to represent me in Tallahassee.

Very nice to see Mark going door to door in the District. As a female I would take offense to using the term boys when referring to people who support him. But it seems that is a typical response from the Newton campaign. Desperate times for a very desperate person. Have another drink Scott, seems that is what you are doing best lately. Actually for the last couple of years. Because you sure did nothing for wilton manors as mayor. What a putrid candidate to represent District 92.

AND YOU WONDER WHY THE CITY OF WILTON MANORS CITY HALL COMPLEX IS 4$ MILLION DOLLARS SHORT OF HAVING ENOUGH MONEY TO COMPLETE THE BOND PROJECT.

How could a high school graduate with no secondary education ever function as a effective representative for District 92 in tallahassee against the very well educated attorneys , doctors and business professionals that represent other parts of the state, who are all fighting for the same dollar?
Answer is he cannot. His track record is laced with the word horrible. The city has never been in worse financial shape. And now with the news in the South Florida Times that he condoned the apparent conduct of a Asst Dept. Director who dispatched extreme racist comments against afro americans, gays, hispanics and just about everybody else non white. Would you trust SCOTT NEWTON in tallahassee. I think a person with a brain would not. You have to wonder how he ever got elected.

Mark , Your education has gotten you no where in life...You cant pay your bills and you've been in trouble with the law more than once. How did your education help you?? Everyone knows common sense cant be learned. College has and never will be for everyone. The city of Wilton Manors is a great city and alot of that is due to the Mayor and commission. You can try and take the heat off your criminal past and debts all over the state of Fl , but actions speak for them self. You never will be the first gay St Rep. might as well face that now!!

I agree that I dont look at ones college education, no more than I care if someone was a boy scout. Gwyn may have been a girl scout and Scott may have been a boy scout, they dont tell anyone because no one cares because it has nothing to do with being a State Rep. Maybe Mark thinks its important because its one of the few positive things he can say about himself...What is important is what one has done with their life since they got out of college.

Isn't Mark LaFontaine the guy who drives on a suspened DL, expired tag, and no proof of insurance.(more than once) Thats not very responsible of a person who wants to be a St. Rep.

08-05-2008, 04:01 AM
You ought to see his new campaign flyer. Is taking the art of lying to a new level. Wrote that he has fiscal expertise. Based on what. He has NO secondary education. So I guess completing high school makes you a financial expert. Wow. We must have a million more financial experts walking around the state without them even knowing that.I would think that the city has a finance director who controls the every day managing of money. So where does the expertise part come in. If he takes credit for balacing the budget, isn't he just one of five commisioners along with department managers who manage the budget. But lets give Scott some credit. We all know that he and the city manager, joe gallegos, were the ones who personally screwed up this city hall/police department by ramming the clueless design down the throats of the taxpayers.Thank god this opened up a lot of eyes to see how inept the both of them are. Right now I can tell you the whole project , without furniture, is 2 MILLION over the 6 million dollar bond budget. Why do you think we had to sell the freakin city parking lot to a private company to come up with some money. And there will be more posts to come. I guess that if being a person with "fiscal expertise" means being a person who lead the taxpayers of wilton manors down a path that cost them millions of dollars, Scott Newton is your man. If you want a person that lies to the public and employees on a daily basis, again Scott Newton is your man.He is a person who truly has no integrity or credibility.

House 92

In House District 92, three Democrats -- gay activist Mark LaFontaine, Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton and former Deerfield Beach Commissioner Gwyn Clarke-Reed -- compete to replace term-limited Rep. Jack Seiler.

If LaFontaine wins, he would be Florida's first openly gay state legislator. He attracted national attention a few years ago when he applied for a leadership position with the Boy Scouts of America, which bans gay troop leaders.

LaFontaine, an accountant who lives in Oakland Park, has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund among other groups.

Newton also has supporters in the gay community, including Ken Keechl, Broward's first openly gay county commissioner.

Newton says his success on the city commission sets him apart. He served for about eight years -- about half the time as mayor -- and helped turn the once crime-ridden city into a revitalized area with shops and restaurants.

But LaFontaine has a fundraising edge with more than $109,000, while Newton has about $76,000. Clarke-Reed has lagged financially in the race for the northeast district that includes portions of Wilton Manors, Oakland Park and Pompano Beach.

If you are not shown love during the election don't expect any love after the election.
I would personally like to thank everyone who came out and participated in the candidates forum at Greater Bethel AME Church. Special thanks to Pastor Dupree, for allowing us to host the forum at the Church. Thanks to TJ Jones and the Men of Bethel who provided security in the pouring rain, also the time keepers (the sisters) the cooks and food servers. Common Highlands Homeowners President Beulah Hill for helping get the candidates. Anyone who I forgot that helped make this event happen THANKS! Special thanks to Elevating the Dialogue co-host and moderator Joy-Ann- Reid, who was very articulate asking the questions. Thanks Joy

The forum started out with the candidates for Florida State Senate Dist. 29 making their case to go to Tallahassee. The candidates in attendance were Micheal Carn, Chris Smith, Earlean Smiley ane Terry Edden Williams. The audience asked some real good tough questions that the candidates answered concerning the FCAT and budget cuts.

Then came Florida State House 92 candidates in attendance were ex Deerfield Beach Commissioner & Deerfield Beach resident Gwyn Clarke- Reed and Mark Lafontaine a 1985 graduate of Deerfield Beach High. Both candidates stated their case and did a good job. Wilton Manors Mayor and candidate Scott Newton was a no-show but did send a representative. The Sheriff's race where all the candidates came except Scott Israel, check this out readers 'Shak' Danji, Wiley Thompson and Rick Lemack came and made presentations and left the building. Bruce Uldolf, came late but made his case to be Broward County Sheriff.

I personally think that if a candidate(s) can't take the time to come into the heart and soul of the Black community and answer questions, why should we vote for these candidates that take our community for granted? Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the candidates coming to Greater Bethel AME Church, but I saw too much of this before from candidates running for office. They go campaign in the big ventures that supply the $$$ and forget about the black voters. Why does this happen? Well Black voters don't take them to task and often let them off the hook for slighting us. Case point- candidate for Sheriff Scott Israel obviously said screw us. He didn't have the courtesy to call and say he couldn't make it. I asked his mouthpiece that shadows him at events . "what happened to Scott? his response was "with his family".This "bought and paid for negro" complained loudly to Rev. Ford about why Scott Israel couldn't speak that night when the pastor's alliance invited Wiley Thompson to speak. Look how Isreal and the other candidates handled Deerfield Beach voters.

They were all at Century Village the night before (15,000 votes at stake). We have to blame ourselves for this "political disrespect " the Black community allowed this type of behavior to happen to us in the past by politicians running for office. This will not be the last time political macks or pimps disrespects the Black community. Lets make them think twice on August 26, 2008.

Did anyone see the last Scott Newton piece with the image of a small child draped in the American flag on the cover with the title "American Dream".

I really have a problem with candidates who violate the US code of respect for the US flag...this mailer does several - using the flag as wearing apparel; draping the flag; using the flag for advertising purposes.

Scott Newton is obviously not one who has served his country nor has any respect for the US flag. SHAMEFUL.

Thank God we never had Scott Newton serve his country. I would have lost a lot of respect dealing with the qualifications of a serviceman if a person like SCOTT NEWTON with the lack of integrity, credibility and ethics he has would have been allowed to serve this country in a position of honor.

Mobilizing pro-GLBT voters
Mark LaFontaine keeps his cool as race heats up

By JUAN CARLOS RODRIGUEZ
Thursday, August 14, 2008

With just a little more than two weeks before the Aug. 26 primary, Mark LaFontaine, the openly-gay candidate for the District 92 seat of State Legislature, methodically makes his rounds knocking on doors in the district on a Saturday morning wearing summer whites and matching Docksiders.

“This is crunch time,” La Fontaine says.

Getting out in the neighborhoods and attending community meetings is crucial at this point, he said.

The race is rife with whisper campaigns and a good amount of mud. Because all the candidates are Democrats, with no Republican opponents competing, the race will be determined at the primary.

As if mirroring the rapidly-intensifying race against his opponents, Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton and former Deerfield Beach City Commissioner Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed, the temperature on Saturday is creeps beyond 90 degrees and keeps rising. Yet LaFontaine walks at a brisk pace along NW 12th Ave in Jenada Isles in Wilton Manors. Armed with a pile of glossy placards and a list of registered voters, LaFontaine barely breaks a sweat, his hair nearly perfect.

His appearance is a stark contrast to Newton, who happens to be dropping off literature at the same time in the same neighborhood. Newton appears red-face and sweating in the summer swelter as he crosses LaFontaine on the 2900 bock of NW 12th Avenue. The two candidates exchange cordial hellos and quickly move on in opposite directions.

The neighborhood appears to be desolate in the near noontime heat. Few residents answer doors, but LaFontaine, a professional accountant, makes his pitch to those who answer his knock.

“Hello, I’m Mark LaFontaine and I’m running for state legislature,” he says.

His door-step stump speech varies little from house to house – he begins by informing voters that there are no accountants in office in the State House of Representatives.

“We need people with financial background in Tallahassee,” he says.

Then he gives a brief bio: a lifelong Broward resident, the only veteran in the race, his extensive background as an activist for GLBT issues, AIDS and youth.

Then he smoothly reveals the detail that could cast him into Florida’s history.

“I’m openly gay,” he says. “I’m not running on that premise, but there is a need for the [GLBT] community to have a voice in Tallahassee.”

Many of the neighbors recognize LaFontaine. There are plenty of rainbow flags in the portals, and some of the yards and walkways are – for lack of a better word – simply fabulous in the gay context.

Jenada Isle and the areas around Wilton Manors are key to the LaFontaine campaign. If elected, La Fontaine becomes the first openly gay state legislator. For the GLBT community his presence can make an impact in debating gay-friendly bills in Florida’s notoriously conservative legislature.

“Having a voice and having someone who is openly gay does put a face and personal perspective on this legislation,” La Fontaine said.

And while La Fontaine does not consider his sexuality, or HIV status to be the primary part of his campaign, he does not deny that his voter base is the LGBT community.

“When you are running a campaign you always look to your base,” La Fontaine said. “Obviously getting GLBT voters is going to be important.”

MARK LAFONTAINE RESPONDS TO SCOTT NEWTON’S DESPERATE,
LAST-MINUTE SMEAR
Weekend Mailer Rehashes Disproven Charges to Change the Subject from Newton’s Poor Management of Wilton Manors’ Finances

Oakland Park – Florida House District 92 candidate Mark LaFontaine issued the following statement in response to Scott Newton’s desperate, last minute smear mailing that hit mailboxes this weekend.
“It’s always interesting to see the type of character a person exudes as an individual, especially when that person is a candidate for public office.
“As an Eagle Scout and military veteran, I want to be sure that voters know that I am an open book when it comes to my past. Since I filed for the District 92 House seat last year in March, I have invited voters to research me on the Internet, and to read about my past history, my present civic activities and my future goals for the community when elected as the next Florida State Representative for District 92. The character traits that I cherish most about myself are my honesty and integrity.
“I admit, and this is not news: I have a few knocks against me. But in the interest of full disclosure, let me be up front about what they are, lest voters get swayed by misleading direct mail.
The truth on my “domestic dispute”
“In 1992, I had a domestic dispute with my longtime partner over a personal issue, which was verbal in nature. The police arrived at our apartment and asked me to leave -- I refused. I was then jumped on, beaten (suffering two cracked vertebrae) and arrested, spending about 5 days in jail, clothed only in a pair of jogging shorts and placed in the ‘AIDS faggot’ cell. The police report indicated a series of events that did not take place, resulting in 4 serious charges. In fact, my partner at the time was told to sign the statement or face imprisonment himself.
“The two most severe charges were dropped because they never happened, and I plead ‘no-contest’ to the others based upon the advice of counsel. There was no conviction under the plea deal and adjudication was withheld. I dispute the charges in the original report and have a

sworn affidavit from my former partner declaring what happened and what didn’t, although I agree there was no excuse for those actions that happened when I was in my early 20s.
The truth on my “traffic issues”
“In 2003, I was involved in a car accident. At no time was I cited, ticketed or arrested. As is typical in these situations, there was a judgment against me personally from the other drivers’ insurance company, and my license was suspended and my registration delayed. I was not made aware of this judgment until 2006 and in fact was led to believe that my insurance company – which is now out of business -- would pay the claim. Once notified, I took immediate steps to make monthly payments and am pursuing my legal options against my insurance company for full settlement of the claim.
The truth on my “eviction situation”
“After Hurricane Wilma, several tenants, myself included, told the management company of our Fort Lauderdale apartment complex that we were not able to pay our rent on time due to the lack of business/work immediately following the hurricane and its devastating effect on the local economy. Everyone who was here then remembers what it was like for several weeks – no school, no work, no electricity or phones. I knew my clientele of mainly small businesses would be back on their own feet themselves and all would be taken care of within the month. The management company took an unusually hard line against the tenants, and said that anyone who was late would be evicted. The management company had my last month and security deposit for the outstanding rent, which they kept. No funds were outstanding when I moved out of the building. I will note that my subsequent landlords have always been paid on time, as they will all attest.
What this all means
“Let me be clear, I take full responsibility for my actions and what has happened to me over the years. I’m human and I’ve made mistakes. I’ve been kicked down and I always pick myself up again. That’s why I have a direct connection to the voters. Real people have real problems, and they want to support someone who has lived and understands their problems.
“As an accountant, my clients rely upon me to manage their financial situations and to guide them in their decisions. While my personal life has had some bumps, my clients have praised my professionalism and dedication to my work. This will be true of the community as well.
“I can stand before the voters and say, ‘Here’s the situation. And here’s how I fixed it.’ That’s the approach I’ll take if I’m elected. I could have had my records expunged or sealed so they were hidden, but actively chose not to. I have nothing to hide.
“I’m proud of the campaign I have been running -- a positive, issues-oriented campaign that has reached out to voters throughout the district. I have major supporters, including US Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, who recognizes that my accounting and financial experience, my military service, and my work in the Broward community will provide District 92 with a well-rounded representative.

“As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, I needed to pass an intensive background screening by the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Coast Guard in order to receive my security clearance. All of these issues were raised, discussed and deemed not worthy of concern at the highest levels of the US Government.
“The bottom line: If voters want a Representative who is honest and with content in his character, then vote for me.
“By contrast, my opponent, Scott Newton, has been forced to change the subject from his poor fiscal management of Wilton Manors. Rather than the idyllic town Scott claims Wilton Manors to be, it is instead a poorly-run fiscal nightmare, as its own auditors found by issuing an adverse opinion. With more than $235,000 in unreconciled funds and more than $3.7 million in unrecorded assets, the audit found that Wilton Manors has ‘significant deficiencies’ in its record keeping and therefore cannot keep track of taxpayers’ funds.”

LMAO....
Mark you are protesting a little too much. You can try and deny these charges, Sounds like a quilty man who is trying to talk his way out, and who thinks the citizens of dist 92 are going to believe your stipid excuses, U also forgot to explain away not paying your credit card bills, or your car being repo. and not paying your medical bills in Orlando. How have you been honest with the people of Dist 92?? Never heard this mentioned before you were exposed, You will loose this race ...now thats the truth.

I dispute the charges in the original report and have a sworn affidavit from my former partner declaring what happened and what didn’t, although I agree there was no excuse for those actions that happened when I was in my early 20s.

41qtk8Newton is a serious nobody. He is going to get his arse WHIPPED. And then think how he has alienated the GLBT community. He cannot win no matter what happens. Actually think of the damage he has done to Wilton Manors. You know they will have to clean house after the Newton stench leaves the building.

08-25-2008, 03:35 AM
ACTUALLY I THOUGHT MARKS REPLY WAS VERY CONSISE AND WELL WRITTEN.YOU CAN TELL WHEN A CANDIDATE HAS A EDUCATION AND ONE WHO RODE THE COATAILS OF HIS PAPPY TO SET HIM UP IN BUSINESS LIKE PUTTING HEADLINERS IN A CAR. BOY THAT REALLY TAKES BRAINS TO DO.

08-25-2008, 04:06 AM
The stench that has blanketed the wilton manors city hall is starting to lift with joe angelo ( or really getting fired) leaving and the dishonorable SCOTT NEWTON leaving shorty. Man the employees , both the general and overpaid cops, will all breath easier with the dynamic duo in isolation. It will take 2 more elections to correct the evil wrongs done by SCOTT NEWTON & JOE ANGELO. And by the way, what ever happend to NICK "BOY"KO ?

08-25-2008, 04:34 AM
It will be interesting to see what support mayor opie newton gets on election day. See who will be supporting the dead head mayor, excuse me the red head mayor when it is crunch time. Word is not many.

08-25-2008, 12:34 PM
Just remember that a Fig Newton has much more brain power than a SCOTT NEWTON.

08-25-2008, 12:57 PM
Thank you VICTORY FUND ! We have a historic winner in florida. :D

08-26-2008, 03:22 AM
Wow did you see the mayor tonight. Talk about stressed out of his pea brained mind. Take a ZANTAC dude. You really need it.

08-27-2008, 03:53 AM
By By Scott Newton. The North Broward Statergy and early voting devised by Mandy worked to perfection. On top of that you united the GLBT community against you . BRAVO you clueless piece of dog crap. Your ego cost you the backing of a well united community. You are HISTORY in the ISLAND CITY LOSER. Congrats Gwen it all worked.

08-27-2008, 04:20 AM
Goodbye Commissioner, I mean Mayor, I mean Mr. Newton   because that is all you are now  . Thank GOD you are no longer with our GREAT ISLAND CITY :P . Do us all a favor and make one more move, out of Wilton Manors totally. I hear the real estate market in Ft. Lauderdale is a buyers market. I'm sure mommy still has some money for you.

How can he do that??? Didn't he endorse Resnik for Mayor? Whats up with that?

08-31-2008, 03:35 PM
Resnick knows he wouldn't stand a chance, so he will probably drop out.

Scott Newton files for third mayoral term
Scott Netwon has announced he will run for re-election as Mayor of Wilton Manors, Fla.

He had previously not entered the mayoral race because he ran for election in the State House of Representatives, in District 92, which includes Wilton Manors, as well as areas of other such cities as Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. However, he did not win the Democratic Primary in his district, coming in behind Gwendolyn Clark-Reed.

However, now that the State House election has ended for Newton, he has changed his position and will seek re-election of the job he has held since 2004.

Many Broward County local seats are contested as qualifying ends
Candidates in 3 cities win spots without a fight

All candidates in Coral Springs, Parkland and Weston won commission seats automatically Tuesday, but other cities' open seats drew plenty of competition for the Nov. 4 elections.

Lauderdale Lakes City Clerk Hazeline Carson said her city's voters can expect "a crowded ballot," with 12 candidates vying for five commission positions, including the mayor's job.

Aside from Lauderdale Lakes and the three cities with no contested races, five others — Hallandale Beach, Lauderhill, Southwest Ranches, Tamarac and Wilton Manors — wrapped up collecting qualifying paperwork Tuesday for the Nov. 4 elections. A six-day qualifying period began last week.

Ten of the 12 candidates who won seats without opposition were incumbents: Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook and Commissioner Roy Gold; Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper; Lauderhill Commissioner Margaret Bates; Parkland Commissioners David Rosenof and Mark Weissman; Tamarac Commissioner Diane Glasser; and Weston Mayor Eric Hersh and Commissioners Angel Gomez and Mercedes Henriksson.

Broward County candidates for local races Two others who were not incumbents and won automatically were Jeff Nelson and Tom Powers, who will become Southwest Ranches' mayor and Coral Springs commissioner, respectively.

Among the races with a large number of candidates are Hallandale Beach, where seven will seek two at-large seats on the City Commission.

In Wilton Manors, there are three applicants for mayor, including incumbent Scott Newton, and five candidates vying for two at-large commission seats.
City Manager Joseph Gallegos expected an uptick in community interest as the elections neared. Already, a candidate forum is planned in October.

"It's a testament to the involvement in our community," he said.

Staff Writers Lisa J. Huriash, Ihosvani Rodriguez and Andrew Ba Tran contributed to this report.

Newton only decided to run after he got his arse kicked in the previous election. I guess now he needs to take back his endorsement to Resnik and endorse himself. Hopefully, we will not have to endure another 2 years of this looser!!!

Vote anybody but Newton!!!

Newton is done. This is a failed attempt to salvage a political career that has been going south for a long time. He looks like the village idiot that he is by now taking back his endorsement of Resnick. Just shows what a two faced liar he really is. Thank God he did not get the state seat and the employees will be much better off after he loses the mayors race.

Resnick knows he wouldn't stand a chance, so he will probably drop out.

Maybe not this time. Newton has lost alot of the Gay vote. It might be a different race this time.

Unfortunately, the best candidate lost again and as the old cleashea, you don't know what you had until you lose it. Gary, enjoy it because I think your position as mayor will be short lived. It is said that a politicians worse nightmare is to lose. It's hard to recover from that BUT, the Newt could defy that and come back to the counsil soon. Hey I dunked him at the charity event at Scandals and he climbed right back up for the next throw.

hey maybe if scotty stops hanging out with loosers like nicky and joey. maybe he has bad letter writers and advisors.

If you dunked scott newton that would be fitting. Because there is not a bigger town drunk the EX MAYOR SCOTT NEWTON. And of you mean council, not COUNSIL, you idiot, the only thing scotty can climb off of is the last bar stool he fell off or cindy threw him off of.

Don't we have a open position to clean the toilets and urinals at city hall. Maybe Scott Newton can do that. But on further review, he is not even qualified or capable to do that. LOSER & LIAR label fits him quite well indeed.

11-23-2008, 05:24 PM
Well, what I am hearing around Alibi is that our boy Scotty might be running unopposed in march for vacant commish seat.

This is so "NOT TRUE"!!! Scotty boy will have some very serious opposition  . Once that election is over, he can sing

He truely deserves everything he gets!!!!

I hear John F. is running...Talk about going back in time. NOT!Scott still has alot of support in WM , there were and are alot of upset people when Gary won. Apparently he targeted new votes that were clueless.

11-24-2008, 10:14 PM
Well the guy that won had alot of support, the final votes show that. Where were all of Newton's supporters during the election? Don't tell me that it would be different if Steen didn't run. They could have still voted for Scotty. I am tired of having my city laughed at on radio and made jokes of and I think these elections will only continue to make a mockary out of us. Should be intersting. Going back in time? Ok sir, who was Scotty's only defeat in our city years ago? Time to shoot some pool and have a drinky.

Yea Scotty is going to have a lot of free time after Feb 10th and play with the 8 ball at Grannys. I can tell you that most every police officer in Wilton Manors hates Newton with a passion except for Perez and a small group of others. Since Resnick has taken " CHARGE" things are much better for city employees and the police side.

01-29-2009, 01:49 AM
This council group is on track to make things better. Look at this new shuttle cart, brilliant BRILLIANT idea. Julie is good but John would really get us back on track. By the way , which newton were you talking about hehe hoohoo hehe.
