Why is it that the non-sworn biologists have so much power in what L/E does? Not talking about the rule making, but in general. A prime example is how they are fighting the new badge decals on the side of the trucks. Is it that there pride will be hurt that the public will no longer think that they are L/E since their vehicles are practically the same.

you hit that nail on the head. They think that they own DLE and get a power trip when people think they are Officers. Too bad if you want to be DLE apply we have 66 positions open.

They would have to don their beards, and tie die shirts!

Most of our biologists couldn't give a rat's butt what's on our doors. This is just another example of FWC LE leadership (?) spouting off excuses why nothing gets done. Reality check. Does it all really matter? An 1860's badge design and a ridiculous cowboy hat is an image that fits florida like a round peg in a square hole. So what is on the doors of our trucks? who cares? Our name says conservation yet we drive 10 mile per gallon trucks just to keep pushing the redneck image.

Good point about the non-efficient gas guzzling F-250's. Why are Lt.'s driving them to/from the office ? Waste of taxpayers money!

Here's an option. Each squad has a 3/4 ton to pull larger boats to and from the water. The rest of us get Jeep Unlimited hardtops. We could put cages in them, keep all of our gear in a safe place, get anyplace we needed to in the woods, get 50% more mileage, AND keep our redneck image.

Okay okay okay, they look cool too.

Just heard that Non-Sworn has state take home vehicles?? What is up with that. Do all of them have take home trucks or just a few for wildlife callouts (bears, fires...)? Have to check DMS rules on that one, just curious to see how many non-sworn in the state have em?

sure, I agree that the biologists dont need 3/4 ton F-250 V-10 Trition trucks when they meet up at the local food joint and stay there all day. (And dont care what LEOs think about it). They dont need take home vehicles. What they DO need to do is answer the phone when called out, respond in a decent amount of time (even if its after 5pm) and either use their boats to retrieve the S7 manatees or make marine retrieval a core mission, give us the boats assigned to FWRI, and justify man house searching for a smelly, decayed sea cow to the legislature (since you wont see a pay raise anyway).

Secondly, not all supervisors need new F-250s because they are utilized but will fight to keep them just for looks. there are supervisors in my area that you are glad to see they have good equipment because they are right there working next to you or backing you up when it hits the fan. but you will never see one supervisor driving an economy vehicle when another in the same area has a truck.

great idea about having just one 3/4 ton truck per squad. She we assume that you will do all the towing that needs to be done. I guess you will be running around constantly when boats go down, need PM, get refurbished or repaired at the NF shop, or a property inspection comes up. Nevermind if you arent available that just too bad. Dont forget trucks are also used for more than towing...like ATVs (unless you expect funds to be allocated for a trailer for every ATV in the field. My guess is that your idea, as great as it may seem economically, its just not practical.

Non-Sworn should be in white vehicles (cheaper) and they can keep their pretty patch w/ a grey deer. L/E should have the badge on the door! If forced to have the patch decal on the vehicles have it the size of the accreditation sticker that is coming.

Do they even go through a background check? What about a drug screen? I got it, the state is in such a financial crisis that they will forgo the drug tests as that costs too much money. It is a given anyway! Pretty ******* sad!
