READ THE SUN SENTINEL ARTICLE ON THE SHOOTING IN THE PLANTATION PD PARKING LOT. IT HAPPENED AT 1930 BUT IF IT WAS EARLIER AND A LIGHT DUTY LEO WAS THERE WHAT WOULD THEY DO? THEY CANT DEFEND THEMSELVES WITH A PEN! ARE WE EVER GOING TO HAVE AN ARMED LEO EITHER AT THE FRONT DESK OR PROTECTIVE GLASS LIKE RECRDS HAS?

This is a good point. But why bring it up on this forum and not bring it up in one that might actually make a difference (like a union meeting, the Chief's office, etc.)....?

What if it had been later and at our PD? The victim surely would have been killed. She would have been greeted by a locked door. Well, she could ring the doorbell and talk to the little box and X-ray 21 could hear her screaming for help but none would be there.

The attacker would then get away since no one is at the front desk over the weekends anyway. If you want to get away with a crime, come to Davie. 12 hour shifts are awesome too.

It was brought up to the old chief (which was pointless)and the current captain upstairs and he is "working" on fixing the front desk issue. They had no problem protecting the records area but they wanted an open area for citizens to address issues with the pd and that is why there was no glass. Also, leos are better suited to do police work rather than sit at the front desk and answer phones.

People laugh at Hialeah PD and for the most party they deserve it. However, they have 5 police stations. One main station and 4 substations. Each and everyone of them is manned at all times by a police officer. Some have bullet proof glass and others just have glass.

Why does a police department in a third world city operate with more common sense then our own? It boils down to service. The citizens expect to be able to walk into a neighborhood police station and be able to speak to an officer. Not ring a doorbell and stand outside until someone shows up.

Knowing the way our PD is run they'll just assign the 22 zone officer there for the entire shift and be short a man on the road.

It'd be interesting enough to see what cop wants to "get stuck" (as it has often been referred to) at the Pd for an entire shift.

Why should anyone have to stay there and waste taxpayer money when we have a cop officer on light duty who can handle walk ins??? Oh I know why....gotta get the hubby coffee....all day....

Hialeah has 5 sub stations manned 24/7? That's alot of money being spent sitting at a desk???

They have one main station and 4 substations. Yes, they are manned 24/7. Do you think it's normal for a person to come to a police station only to find locked doors and a doorbell?

Our lobby should be open 24/7... Being in such a visible place (Nob Hill & 595), people from everywhere come to our police station because they don't tend to understand that different jurisdictions have their own specific police department. They see Davie Police Department and they automatically assume that that's where they should go.

That aside, the police department should be a safe haven for people being tracked down by a homicidal spouse. As a victim in a situation such as the one that presented itself at Plantation should not shy away from coming to our (or any) police department in fear that they may be "closed." That does a dis-service to the community.

As for the safety of the front desk personnel (of which include light duty officers, service aides, and, soon, volunteers), the bullet proof glass is long overdue and in the works. I just hope they remember to reinforce the walls as well.

Hialeah has 1 main station and 3 substations. The lobby is opened from 0700-2300 hours. They are all manned by PSA's and officer's on light duty. There are talks that they want to close them on the weekends so they can save $$$.

Main station sector 2, sector 1 substation, sector 3, sector 4, sector 5.

Which one of them closed?

Hollywood has 3 "network centers" and none of them are manned by a police officer, they have a psa 9-5, m-f, maybee but not always, they are substations that they refer to as "network centers", so they don't have to man them 24/7 The main police dept is not manned by a cop. You run to the PD to get help and you have to get buzzed in by a psa who is not going to buzz you in if there's an armed guy right behind you.

Maybe if Davie didn't mann the substations they would have the manpower to patrol Ehlinger and ALpine.. aka thugville USA

That is an unofficial substation, like the Mobil :D

It's time to think outside the box. Time to build a drive through at the station similar to one you would see at a bank. People can request reports through the little microphone. But, on the other end there would be someone living in India talking to you from their shack. We could pay them low hourly wages without benefits.

Every other company is doing it. Why shouldn't we? This would free up all sorts of money. Then we could start paying OT to our cops again so they could wire our cars like crap.

05-30-2008, 04:03 AM
The HIALEAH substations are not open now on the weekends and not all the time during the week. You get a locked door, a black phone box and a note telling you to go to the main station to make a report.

Anybody forget that you guys did have somebody off themselves in your parking lot? You guys did a great job of covering that one up!

07-07-2008, 02:38 PM
What the hell was there to cover up? The guy came to the PD said he wanted to kill himself, soon as he saw police he did. Whats to hide!?
Dooshbag. Too bad it wasnt you.

07-08-2008, 03:09 PM
Well...not to worry because soon the front desk will be manned by volunteers and possibly one PSASA to handle reports. Somehow I'm not so sure that an 80 y/o person can handle a sig/20 that walks through those front doors. Not to mention they're giving ALL of the phone lines to dispatch, because ya know we don't have enough going on upstairs. In reference to the guy "offing himself" in our parking lot as you so delicately put it, there was nothing that could be done for that situation. The 20 never came to the front door, and even if he did he had an effin 0 in his hand, it's not like we'd say "sure come right in". Anyway just thought I'd throw my two cents in there. Have a good one guys, fight nicely.
