Visions of grandeur i guess.....
Tony is a good guy..no doubt about it. A real stand up type guy.....But Sheriff?
Look at his Law Enforcement record. Jailer for TCSO, then "Chief Jailer" when there was but 1 jailer per shift. Then Civil Process server at TCSO. Then off to Capital Police where he served the vast majority of his "Law Enforcemet" career. Only in the last year or two was Capital Police under FDLE, until then it was Division of Management Services, not even associated with a Law Enforcement division of the state. Everybody knows that Capitol Police is no more than an armed security force to guard the Capital Building, their executive staff doesn't even want them to arrest anybody - just call TPD or Leon SO if an arrest is necessary. The back to TCSO for a little over a year where he finally got to be a 'COP".
Yea, back in the early 80"s Tony worked a couple of "good" homegrown marijuana cases, but back then it was an "all call" for help on that kind of case. Any and all help was welcomed and then Sheriff Whittle gave Tony (his "process server") the freedom to do a little extra, and Tony did (by the way Tony did a great job on those couple of cases).

Qualified to be Sheriff? You decide.

BUT Tony is a great guy!!!! Not putting him down but look at his credentials.
