The inaugural Sergeant Chris Reyka motorcycle function was held this past Saturday, March 29, 2008. The event was sponsored by the Broward Sheriff's Office to honor a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. Possibly your leaders remember the name of Sergeant Chris Reyka? On August 10, 2007 he was ambushed, shot and killed at the Walgreen’s just north of Ft Lauderdale on Powerline road. Several Fort Lauderdale police officers arrived to ride in the fundraiser and show their support along with approximately 1,100 others. Law enforcement motor units (in uniform) showed up from Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office, Palm Beach County, several Broward agencies, even the Miami Gardens Police Department had their motors there. Where was one of the premier agencies motor unit? Not one of Fort Lauderdale's motors was there. Why? Perhaps due to their commitment to the "Spring Break" assignment. Could they have sent at least 2 motors to assist with the kick-off then back to the beach? I guess not. This lack of support was a discussion held in several circles as the participants waited for the start of the event. Appalling and disgust are the words that seem fitting. I would bet in the finite wisdom of the head of "Public Safety" that having Fort Lauderdale officers appear at such a worthwhile event was at the bottom of any possible list. After all, there's gum on the sidewalks...

Don't trash the working guy....blame the admin, if true.

If this is true why isn't the union, everyone in the PD except for the two who won't speak out, screaming right now. City Hall should be so ashamed. When are we going to wake up and start giving back to these Pu**ys.

City Hall refused to let the FLPD bikes ride in the parade. Liability and needed to be on the beach to make sure of no open containers. Also didn't want them to train for the Police Rodeo competition. Thanks again City Hall - we love ya.
