Is it true about the five year contract when you get hired by the Department?

So if YOU LEAVE BEFORE ITS UP DO YOU HAVE TO PAY UP? If so how much is it?

I believe if you are hired and sponsored by us to go to the academy you are asked to sign a five year contract. If you leave prior to five years you will be required to pay back all or a portion depending upon how long you are here. As far as how much, i'm not sure depends on cost of academy, and stuff.

Five years is pretty steep, most agency (besides Pinecrest) make you pay if you leave before the one year anniversary. What about the certified officers? I was told that they have to sign a two year contract. Why would you have to sign a two year contract as cert. ofc. if you don’t owe the tribe anything b/f getting hired.

I have no idea why they have a five yr contract if they sponsor you it's been that way since before I started I guess they figure it'll keep people from leaving but it doesn't. The two yr for certified's I think they got rid of but I'm not 100% sure....

I went through the full academy with the Tribe years and years ago. Of course I was slipped the 5 year contract. Anyone wanna take a guess how much I owed the Tribe when I bailed? Answer: Not a penny. In fact, the Tribe billed frauduently for $500 for a class I had attended which was free for Florida certified officers through IPTM. Long story short, I was summonded to civil court and the judge threw out the suit because I had all my ducks in a row. They actually owed me money afterwards which I never saw a dime of of course. I will reveal my secret and tell each and every one of you how to get around it....

First, I was there for approx. 2.5 years. In that time, I was issued all the equipment from the Tribe which they later turned around and sued me for. As you all know, they bill you for this equipment, even right down to your shoelaces! So I always kept everything in good and reissuable condition....now remember to keep those words handy, "GOOD AND REISSUABLE". The day I got my start date and my new department, I loaded up all my stuff and inventoried it all on departmental propery receipts. I listed everything on there...even the shoelaces I knew they would sue me over. At the end, I had 5 full property receipts and at the bottom of every receipt I wrote, "ALL EQUIPMENT WAS RETURNED IN GOOD AND REISSUABLE CONDITION". I drove over to the Tribe after the brass had left and had the on-duty Sgt log everything back in and SIGN the bottom of the property receipts. I then slipped my resignation letter (effective immediately) under the Chief's door, grabbed my paycheck and cashed it at the casino so they wouldnt take taxes out...I didn't want the Tribe putting a stop-hold on the check. Ya gotta think ahead, fellas.
So fast forward to 5 months later, I get summoned, go to civil court and the judge tosses everything out the second he sees my copies of the property receipts which had about $5,000 worth of equipment on it and signed by a supervisor. I also brought my last paycheck stub which showed that I had 575 hours of comp time which I never cashed in. I deducted that total from what the Tribe was suing me for (the wanted close to $11,000) which came out to a few thousand dollars. So between the comp time money they owed me and the reissuable equipment that I returned, the Tribe actually owed me $1,500 or so. Guys, use your head with them and do things the right way and you will never pay a dime back to them if you break any contract.
Good luck to each and every one of you applying elsewhere. I thought it was BAD when I was there....it has gotten 100x worse since! Be safe Gentlemen!

P.S. Just because I knew they were going to sue me, I didn't waste any time writing a long, kiss azz resignation letter telling the Tribe how great it was working for them and thanking them for the opportunity, blah blah blah....this is what I typed.

Dear Chief ________,

I resign, effective immediately, from the Miccosukee Police Dept.

Regards,

Ofc. __________

I suggest everyone should turn in a resignation letter like that whenever they bail...it shows no respect towards them for the amount of abuse they do unto you. F them! Oh and give it to Ray Weeks but don't acknowledge or use his phony title "Commisioner" in there. We all know that's laughable! "Mr." will do just fine but "Ray Weeks" works even better. The ultimate wannabe!

I think you should thank the tribe when you leave.
If you make here you make it any where. After you put up with this place any other place would seem like heaven.
This place makes you a better officer because of all the crap that you got to put up with.
We all want to leave, but we got families to feed.

Also dont jump all over the mod, he is also trying to get the hell out.
