I am looking to get on with Univ of Miami PD and would like to know what kind of working relation you have with that agency. It seems like the Chief has made a lot of in roads for the officers and is working in a positive direction for all. whats your opinion ? Do you train together and do you have mutual aid ?

Are you certified? If not, and UM is sponsoring you, take it just for that. However, if another agency offers you a job, take that one over UM.

Basically, it's good for certification or a retirement job. Don't expect to work too closely with the city for many reasons. UM is highly political and restrictive in nature. Yes, it has improved 150 times over since the new Chief has taken charge. But, you must look at some cons:
1- no take home cars
2- private retirement
3- no union/legal protection
4- limited off duty jobs
5- you'll be a private employee of a PD. That amounts to being a mercenary.
6- upward mobility is almost non-existent. For example, a Sgt. at UM is promoted by the wave of a "majic wand" and is not recognized as official rank byCGPD. (That is how the cat-loving psycho-therapist freak got promoted.)

It's not horrible, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not trying CGPD instead. The requirements are identical, but you'd get far more benefit from working for the city.
