What type of schedule do you guys work? Also are you FRS?

01-26-2008, 08:00 PM
Road Patrol works 4-10's, Special Services (Comm Policing, Traffic, DB, etc) are still working 5 days for some reason but have weekends off. We have our own city pension which is comparable to FRS except that we pay a percent of our salary into the pension. We are looking to make our pension a lot better in the coming years.

01-27-2008, 12:50 AM
Do you guys have takehome?

01-28-2008, 02:21 AM
Hey interested party, let me get something perfectly clear. Our pension is not like FRS.The only thing our pension and FRS have in common is that we have a 3% multiplyer. Try Doral or departments in Broward.

take homes after one year.

01-29-2008, 12:15 AM
Aventura gives a take home car after 2 years of service. Most agencys give you a take home car after 1 year. We move slow in Aventura when it comes to our benefits package.

Thanks for the info :)

For as much as a few of the sour grapes post on here, you would think our dept sucks. It is not nearly as bad as some would make it sound. (Especially after coming form another agency that was Far far worse.)

Takes homes yes, after 2 yrs
City pension plan - 25yr (currently) with a 3% multiplier.
Road Patrol - 4X10's - bid by seniority every Jan - May - Sept. (Commuminty Policing, traffic,DB all work 5X8's with sat/sun off)

We do have a lot of things that an officer can do. K-9, traffic, Dive, SWAT, marine patrol, bicycles, and had a street crimes unit.

Aventura PD is great...But when someone states that our city pension is like FRS there mistaken.Lets not fool anyone.

APD pension 3% multiplyer JUST LIKE BUYING A NEW CAR THAT IS STRIPPED.NO POWER,NO AC, NO CD PLAYER, NO CARPET.

FRS PENSION
3% multiplyer
Drop plan
3% cola after you retire
money towards purchasing health insurance after you retire.
highest 3years earned go into pension
no $$ out of pocket towards your pension

Yes your right, our pension is almost like FRS.

What is the average time that it takes for the hiring process if you do well on everything?

Also are there alot of Off Duties available or is that by seniority as well?

02-07-2008, 12:57 AM
Sour grapes - I never said our pension was THE best. I just stated what it is. That will be something for the reps and PBA to work out in a few months. Though I wish we were FRS, our pension IS better than some other agencies.

Yes, there are plenty of off-duties. The more or less permenent details are bid about two weeks after we bid for the upcoming shift. (Shift changes are Jan/May/Sep - so the off-duty bids are around mid Dec, mid-april, and mid-Aug.)

Traffic details (construction) and other events (like the opening of Nordstroms's etc...) that come up are put out by e-mail, and whoever gets it -gets it.

There are also some "overtime" details that come up and are available (4th of July, holiday traffic, high holy days and others). "Prisoner transport" details on Friday and Saturday nights are OT. Lots of overtime and offduties as the holidays get close.

Is there a freeze on your hiring right now.

03-03-2008, 09:35 PM
To the interested applicant dont bother applying were at full staff. You sound like another loser that wants it all now. No..we dont have many off dutys anymore , and to the wise azzzz who said you need knee pads when you interview for a specialty unit. Your wrong....the department already knows who they want before you interview. The interview is just a formaility so they can say they gave everybody a chance.

04-10-2008, 01:07 AM
There is not a "freeze" on hiring, however, we are at full staff. We just don't have any open positions right now.
