Heard the speech by the City Manager yesterday at the Civic League Lunch.
He told the crowd how he was going to do more in fighting drugs in Newtown and was questioning if police needed all the equipment they have or if the County can do more of SPD's work such as Marine Unit, etc.

He spoke and sounded like he was the Chief of Police making the decisions for SPD.

Traffic-sign gaffe in downtown Sarasota to be fixed tonight

ROGER DROUIN

SARASOTA -- Two new overhead signs at one of the city’s busiest intersections pointed traffic in the wrong direction.

Drivers who follow the arrow for Main Street would end up at Marina Jack. And the ‘Marina Plaza’ arrow sends them to Main Street.

Oops.

Foreman Rick Trujillo, with Florida Safety Contracting Inc., said he realized the signs were wrong after installing them at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Main Street. Both of the $14,000 signs came from the manufacturer with a defect, Trujillo said.

The green overhead signs sit directly above traffic at Main and U.S. 41, with arrows pointing east and west.

Trujillo said he planned to take the signs down late tonight and fix the problem when few cars are on the road.

“I’ve seen some signs come out really wrong, with incorrect spelling and all kinds of stuff,” Trujillo said. “I’m just glad this can be fixed.”

The signs, which will light up at night, were installed as part of a Florida Department of Transportation project to add a left turn lane in both directions off U.S. 41.

At least one person called FDOT to complain about the signs.

Yeah, he thinks the county is gonna have the resourses to do our work in the city. They are pulling back also. Florida is gonna be like the wild wild west when this happens. Survival of the fittest, and the city manager doesnt look to fit.

Every time a new City Manager comes in he tries to impress the City Commission by offering up all these cost saving measures. Most of them he knows will never fly but it at least gives the appearance that he is trying to save money. I have been through three City Managers and they all play the same game. Make a big splash with cost savings and make yourself look good. Understand something. This guy doesn’t care about what goes on at the PD. It is just an easy target for him to make himself look better. Hopefully your current Commission has enough since to see through this rouse.

The city mgr has already made comments about doing away with marine patrol,,he figures he can save around 250,000 a year and still pay the SSO 100,000 to provide the service,,,fine in theory,,but we all know it wont work,,,wait until the first time some bird key blue nose calls about a boat problem and the sso doesnt have a boat available,,,

He has also discussed one K9 unit and im sure crime scene is on the drawing board too,,,he is also planning on closing our beneva garage and merging with 12th st....

This guy is nothing more than a henchman that was hired to cut cut cut.
